If the opportunity to play a key role in developments in Treatment planning as part of a multi-disciplinary team is tempting, then this new B8A role within the dosimetrist/Healthcare Practitioner workforce at Velindre could be for you.
We are looking for an experienced Treatment Planner to take up a new post dedicated to online Adaptive Radiotherapy and to work with the other Principal Healthcare Science Practitioners within the Treatment Planning team. Velindre Cancer Service is currently undergoing a period of major investment with the satellite centre recently opened in Abergavenny, and the transition to a new building in Cardiff (Summer 2027). At completion, there will be Ethos linacs in both sites, as well as a complete refresh of imaging and software systems.
Main duties of the jobLeads on adaptive radiotherapy implementation by introducing best practice into the current workflow X
Day-to-day management of the treatment planning workflow as part of a team
The postholder develops their own skills to further advance the adaptive radiotherapy implementation
Supervises, mentors and trains less experienced staff in adaptive radiotherapy planning techniques
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Person Specification Qualifications and Knowledge- Degree in physical or computer science or radiography
- Post-graduate training in the field of radiotherapy to MSc level (or equivalent) including the anatomical, radiobiological and physical aspects enabling the prescription and approving of treatment plans
- Clinical Registration (as a Clinical Technologist or as HCPC Radiographer)
- Evidenced achievements in treatment planning techniques to advanced levels e.g. VMAT/IMRT
- Incorporated Membership IPEM
- Relevant supervisory and training qualifications
- IPEM accredited MSc in Medical Physics
- Experience of planning a wide range of complex conformal treatments and advanced techniques such as IMRT and IGRT and their implementation.
- Experience of clinical use of Mould Room, Simulator, Linacs etc
- Supervisory and training experience
- Attendance of Treatment Planning courses provided by other centres and radiotherapy related organisations.
- Published papers and/or presentations
- Participation in CPD scheme
- Involvement in Linac or software or workflow commissioning
- Experience of R&D and project work and clinical trials
- Proven communication skills both verbal and written, especially with people of other disciplines who may have a barrier to technical understanding.
- Organisational skills
- Knowledge of possible errors, and ability to spot them
- Anatomy & Physiology (especially cross-sectional images).
- Good developmental IT skills in databases, spread sheets & addition software etc.
- Willingness to work flexible hours
