Principal Planning Officer
Job Ref: Devon
Pay Rate: £42.00 per hour PAYE
Hours per week: 37 Monday - Friday, normal working hours
This opening assignment is for 7 months
Phoenix House, EX16 6PP

Predominantly remote, requirement to be based in the locality to attend meetings and site visits

Candidates must be available for immediate start

Must have capability for mobility across the district


What you will hold to be considered for this role:
  • Knowledge of Town and Country Planning Legislation, procedures, practice and precedents
  • Degree or Diploma in Town and Country Planning or a related discipline
  • Significant demonstrable experience in Planning Development Control / Management
  • To be mobile across the district
  • Chartered Membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute is desired


The role:

Our client is seeking a Principal Planning Officer for processing and preparation of reports on planning and other applications, agreements, consultations and appeals and to assist in advisory and development control activities. You willparticipate in the provision of an effective and efficient Planning Service and to assist the service in meeting its Government targets and provide a quality service to its customers.

Key accountabilities:
  • Process and prepare reports on planning applications, Listed Building applications, applications for advertisement consent, consultations and notifications and Legal Agreements
  • Provide advice where appropriate for Enforcement Reports
  • To ensure that planning and other applications/notifications and agreements comply with the requirements of the Town and Country Planning Acts
  • Provide advice to applicants, agents, developers and others on development control and enforcement matters
  • Manage negotiations and consultations with developers, applicants and agents with regard to development and redevelopment
  • Arrange and attend as necessary site inspections and meetings in connection with planning and other applications
  • Prepare statements and proofs of evidence and written representations and to present evidence as necessary on behalf of the Council
  • Represent the Head of Planning and Regeneration Development Management Manager or Area Team Leader as necessary, at meetings


Key requirements:
  • Degree or Diploma in Town and Country Planning or related discipline
  • Knowledge of Town and Country Planning Legislation, and procedures
  • Significant demonstrable experience in Development Control / Management
  • Effective negotiating and communication skills
  • Chartered Membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute desirable
  • Computer literate and proficient in the use of Microsoft Office
  • To be mobile across the District
  • Strongreport writing skills
