Principal Legal Counsel - Disputes and Contentious Risk Team (12 month fixed term contract, full time, 37.5 hours per week, Bristol, United Kingdom)
About the roleJoin the Disputes and Contentious Risk team as a highly experienced, business minded litigation lawyer. In this role you will provide expert legal advice, manage litigation workstreams, and support the Director of Disputes and Contentious Risk in shaping strategy and achieving the group's legal objectives.
Responsibilities- Provide expert and pragmatic litigation services to the business, managing legal and litigation risk.
- Support the legal team and business in managing litigation workstreams, including disclosure and expert and witness evidence.
- Liaise with external lawyers and counsel for litigation management.
- Assist in developing the team's training and knowledge function, delivering training in litigation where required.
- Support the Director in shaping legal strategy and achieving strategic goals.
- Build and maintain internal and external networks and keep abreast of developments in relevant law and regulation.
- Qualified Solicitor with 10+ years PQE.
- Experience in litigation and contentious financial services matters, preferably within a retail context and with in house experience.
- Excellent understanding of Financial Services litigation, UK financial service laws, FCA regulation and the FOS.
- Ability to collaborate proactively with business stakeholders, translating complex matters into clear pragmatic legal advice.
- Comfortable working in a dynamic environment across a broad range of matters.
- Excellent technical and drafting skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Excellent attention to detail.
A two stage interview process: a competency based interview followed by a case study.
Working ScheduleLocation: Bristol Head Office, BS1 5HL.
Contract: 12 month fixed term, full time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
