Job Description

This role is a fantastic opportunity for a STEM Returner or Ex Armed Forces professional.

The Vacancy

Binnies is pleased to offer a position within our hydraulic design team, which provides specialist services for water and wastewater projects both in the UK and internationally. We seek a new team member with expertise in either transient/surge analysis or Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).

You will have the chance to work on diverse projects involving water, wastewater, reservoirs, and tunnels for UK water companies, the Environment Agency, Natural Resources Wales, and clients in North America, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Australia.

About the Role

The role involves:

  1. Undertaking and supervising hydraulic design of water and wastewater facilities, pipelines, or tunnels.
  2. Performing hydraulic calculations and modeling (transients and/or CFD).
  3. Preparing technical reports.
  4. Liaising with clients and external organizations.
  5. Supervising junior team members.
  6. Delivering project tasks within budget and schedule.

The ideal candidate will hold a degree in Engineering and Chartered status with a relevant institution such as ICE, IMechE, or CIWEM.

Qualifications, skills, and knowledge required include:

  • Strong understanding of hydraulics.
  • Proficiency in MS Word and Excel.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to apply knowledge to non-standard situations.
  • Clear and concise report writing skills.
  • Experience in hydraulic design of water and wastewater treatment plants, pumping stations, pipelines, reservoirs, spillways, or tunnels is desirable.
  • Knowledge of transient/surge analysis or CFD.
  • Experience with programming or macro writing.
  • Ability to interpret and annotate design drawings.
  • Ability to work in Redhill, Surrey, at least occasionally.
