Context

With ambitious growth plans, SYSTRA Ltd is at an exciting juncture as we continue to expand in the UK & Ireland. We are currently seeking an experienced Principal Electrical Engineer (Building Services) for our engineering design practice.

This role within our MEP engineering team is ideal for a dedicated and ambitious engineer with strong leadership and interpersonal skills, coupled with commercial acumen. You will lead electrical engineering building services design projects for key infrastructure projects in the UK and Ireland, with opportunities for global project involvement. The position can be based in York, Manchester, Birmingham, or Reading, offering a hybrid working model, with an average of three days in SYSTRA or client offices.

Main Duties

The Principal Electrical Engineer will lead a team of Electrical Engineers, reporting to the Team Leader or Discipline Lead M&E, and act as MEP Contractors Responsible Engineer (CRE) and/or Lead Engineer on assigned projects. Responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring projects meet all client requirements and standards.
  • Delivering projects on time and within budget.
  • Planning project works and forecasting resources.
  • Managing client requirement changes and raising them with the Project Management Team.
  • Providing monthly cost forecasts.
  • Ensuring training and development of the electrical team.

The role adheres to SYSTRA's six key Industry Safety Rules, emphasizing safety as a priority in all activities.

Profile/Skills
  • Deep knowledge of electrical services design in the built environment and transport infrastructure, including low voltage distribution, lighting, small power, containment, earthing, fire alarms, and intruder alarms.
  • Understanding of multidisciplinary issues related to M&E and building services.
  • Experience with Electric Vehicle charging infrastructure design is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of construction principles and standards.
  • Experience working with offshore Production Centres.
  • Ideally an Incorporated or Chartered Engineer, qualified to HNC or equivalent.
  • Significant engineering design and site experience in a consultancy or contractor environment.
  • Strong professional expertise to manage complex or non-standard design solutions.
  • Good understanding of CSM/CDM regulations.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills for client interactions.
  • Experience managing a team of Electrical Engineers.
  • Ability to maintain good relationships with external and internal stakeholders.
