Job Description
Overview

Our Client has a requirement for a Principal EICA Engineer, who will be required to work on a contract basis in Manchester, delivering high-quality electrical, instrumentation, and control engineering designs and overseeing projects from design through commissioning.

Role Purpose: The Principal EICA Engineer will provide technical leadership across water sector projects, ensuring all EC&I designs meet project specifications, industry standards, and client requirements. You will manage subcontractors, lead engineering teams, and act as the technical point of contact from design through to commissioning and handover.

Responsibilities
  • Produce cost-effective and specification-compliant EC&I design documents.
  • Lead outline electrical, instrumentation, and control designs on projects.
  • Conduct site surveys and attend Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) at supplier premises.
  • Ensure all designs, including subcontractor deliverables, meet project specifications and budgets.
  • Allocate work across engineering teams and ensure delivery against schedule.
  • Prepare equipment and material requisitions, installation scopes of work, and technical bid assessments.
  • Support HV design, site construction, and commissioning activities.
  • Ensure compliance with national and international codes of practice, legislation, and client standards.
Experience / Skills / Knowledge / Qualifications
  • Degree in Electrical, Electronic, or Control Engineering (apprenticeships considered).
  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status (or evidence of working towards it).
  • 15+ years' experience in EC&I engineering within water, nuclear, or similar sectors.
  • Knowledge of UK legislation and standards including WIMES.
  • Experience with CE marking, ATEX, PED, Low Voltage Directive, Machinery Directive, and EMC compliance.
  • Proven experience managing engineers and subcontractors on complex projects.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Safety-focused, customer-oriented, and highly motivated.
