Job Description

Job title: Principal Control & Instrumentation Engineer

Location: Barrow-in-Furness, Filton or Manchester (2 days minimum on site per fortnight). We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements - please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role.

Salary: Negotiable dependant on experience

What you'll be doing:
  1. Develop a functional design for the Vehicle Control solution for SSNA.
  2. Work with a complex relationship of stakeholders to provide oversight in the delivery of the vehicle control solution, and the supporting vehicle control strategy.
  3. Support assurance activities in collaboration with the Office of the Chief Engineer.
  4. Work with the engineering manager to deliver the vehicle control system, reporting progress through agile toolsets.
  5. Ensure the engineering delivery plan is met and delivered on schedule.
  6. Provide guidance on engineering methods and processes to the delivery team.
  7. Develop technical solutions with the Engineering Delivery Team, mentoring team members.
  8. Engage with legacy stakeholders to develop solutions from known baseline designs.
Your skills and experiences:

Essential:

  1. Experience in developing C&I designs for large-scale systems meeting various standards.
  2. Experience managing non-functional requirements like EMC, shock, etc., ensuring industrial compliance.
  3. Experience authoring/reviewing design documents such as I/O schedules, functional design specifications, interface control documents.
  4. Degree or equivalent in Engineering, Physics, Maths, or Science.

Desirable:

  1. Understanding control system architecture and communication protocols (e.g., RS-485, PROFIBUS).
  2. Experience with IEC 61508 - Functional Safety and supporting safety evidence.
  3. Experience with Maneuvering Systems in various industries.
