Job Description

Role Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Year 6 Teacher to join our team on a one-year fixed-term contract. This position is open to Early Career Teachers (ECTs) and experienced practitioners alike.

The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality teaching and learning, preparing pupils for Key Stage 2 SATs, and supporting their transition to secondary education.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning

  • Plan, deliver, and assess engaging lessons aligned with the Key Stage 2 National Curriculum
  • Prepare pupils effectively for end-of-key-stage assessments (SATs)
  • Use a range of teaching strategies to meet the needs of all learners
  • Monitor, record, and report on pupil progress in line with school policies
  • Maintain a stimulating and inclusive classroom environment

Pupil Support

  • Promote high standards of behaviour and positive relationships
  • Support pupils' academic, social, and emotional development
  • Identify and support pupils with additional needs (SEND, EAL, etc.)
  • Work closely with support staff to ensure effective intervention

Assessment and Accountability

  • Track pupil progress and implement targeted interventions
  • Contribute to data analysis and pupil progress meetings
  • Provide regular feedback to pupils and parents

Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively with Year 6 team members and wider staff
  • Contribute to planning, moderation, and curriculum development
  • Participate in staff meetings, CPD, and school events

ECT Support

Person Specification

Essential

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or working towards QTS
  • Proven experience teaching in Year 6(this may include placements for ECTs)
  • Strong knowledge of the KS2 curriculum
  • Understanding of SATs expectations and preparation
  • Commitment to high standards of teaching and learning
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills
  • Ability to inspire and motivate pupils

Desirable

  • Experience teaching in Upper Key Stage 2 beyond Year 6
  • Experience with diverse learning needs (SEND, EAL)
  • Experience contributing to whole-school initiatives
