Practitioner Psychologist ABUHB Learning Disability Directorate
ABUHB Learning Disability Psychological Services provide specialist psychological assessments and interventions across Gwent to adults with a Learning Disability. We have the reputation of striving for the highest standards of care through person centred models empowering individuals in their context.
Applications are invited for a motivated and compassionate Practitioner Psychologist to work in Blaenau Gwent CLDT. This is a 6 month Fixed Term post at Band 7. We welcome newly qualified trainees as well as more experienced candidates
Blaenau Gwent Community Learning Disabilities Team is one of five multi-disciplinary community teams that support adults with a learning disability who present with complex needs including behaviours that challenge and/or mental health difficulties. The team has a well-established multi-disciplinary model of working. Psychological Services have a valued role within the service. The Department is supportive, valuing every member.
Main duties of the jobTo provide a psychological service to adults with a Learning Disability in the population served by Blaenau Gwent CLDT. Provide direct psychological assessment / interventions to service users and their supporting networks. Seek to improve psychology services offered whilst ensuring safe / effective clinical practice.
Prior experience of working psychologically with adults with a learning disability is essential as is, being physically present within the team. A good working knowledge of current frameworks and good practice guidelines relevant to working with adults with a learning disability,a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others, and experience of providing clinical supervision.

We have established links with the South Wales Doctoral Clinical Psychology course, host trainees, contribute to teaching and supervising trainee research. We are members of the local SIG, DCP Faculty of Learning Disability.

This post is fixed term/ secondment for 6 months from start date, due to maternity cover. If you are interested in applying for the secondment position, you must obtain permission from your current line manager prior to applying for this post.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Person Specification Qualifications and Knowledge- Three-year Practitioner Psychology Doctorate in Clinical or Counselling accredited by the BPS across a range of client groups which must include people with a Learning Disability.
- Eligible for HCPC Registration
- Ability to and expectation of being physically present in the CLDT for the working week
- Other related academic qualifications e.g., Accredited Positive Behaviour Support qualification
- Experience of providing clinical supervision to other professionals and or assistant psychologists
- Experience of close collaborative working as a psychologist with systems around the referred service user
- Evidence of being a collaborative team player who is able to build respectful, effective working relationships with a range of stakeholders
- Can work independently and be accountable and responsible for own practice in line with professional guidelines
