Job Description
Porter

DSFS Ltd is recruiting for a Porter on a 37.5 hour per week contract, to work within the portering department predominantly based in the main hospital at Chesterfield Royal Hospital.

The duties include a wide variety of portering tasks. You will be expected to work a shift pattern covering 24 hours a day / 7 days a week, including weekends.

Main duties of the job
  • Escorting patients and visitors.
  • Transporting patients by appropriate means.
  • Transferring deceased persons to the mortuary and preparing viewings.
  • Collecting and disposing of refuse, including special waste and recycling.
  • Cleaning domestic waste equipment and storage areas.
  • Collecting bagged soiled linen.
  • Collecting and/or distributing miscellaneous items such as stores, medical gases, laundry, medical notes.
  • Collecting and delivering blood products from Pathology to the wards.
  • Attending cardiac arrests with initial responsibility for delivering the second line drug box and responding to medical staff requests.
  • Undertaking movement of furniture and facilitating office relocations for both on site and off site areas.
  • Taking receipt of customer requests for portering assistance and logging all tasks on the current recording system.
  • Any other duties as may be allocated from time to time, as need demands.

Qualifications and Training
  • GCSE Maths and English or equivalent.
Experience
  • Ability to work unsupervised.
  • Adaptable to meet service needs.
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to work as a team.
  • Experience working within a hospital environment.
Skills and Knowledge
  • Ability to multi task.
  • Computer and keyboard skills.
  • Full UK driving licence for operating the waste collection vehicle.
Personal Attributes
  • Physically capable of handling wheeled waste containers and furniture waste. (Alternative arrangements can be made for disabled applicants if required.)
  • Adaptable to meet service needs.
