Hours: 37 hours per week
Contract Type: 12-month Fixed Term Contract
Location: South Bank Police Station, Middlesbrough and Hartlepool Police Station.
Are you committed to delivering justice in complex and often sensitive historic investigations? We are seeking dedicated Police Staff Investigators (Level 2) to join our Historic Investigation Unit (Operation Dean). This is a challenging yet highly rewarding opportunity to support investigations into serious and often long-standing offences, working with victims and witnesses who may have waited years for their voices to be heard.
You will play a key role in progressing complex investigations, ensuring a professional, ethical, and victim-focused approach while supporting the delivery of justice.
Key Responsibilities- Supporting and progressing serious and complex investigations as directed by supervisors
- Interviewing victims, witnesses, and suspects in line with legislation and best practice
- Identifying and supporting vulnerable or intimidated witnesses to achieve best evidence
- Acting as Officer in the Case for both new and ongoing investigations
- Ensuring victims and witnesses are treated with care, empathy, and professionalism
- Preparing high-quality case files and completing prosecution processes in line with legislation
- Attending court to provide evidence where required
- Using intelligence ethically to support investigations and crime reduction objectives
- Working collaboratively with policing teams and partner agencies during investigations and operations
- Maintaining accurate records and managing information in line with legal and organisational standards
- Building positive relationships with communities and stakeholders to ensure fair and responsive service delivery

- Strong investigative experience, particularly in complex cases
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to adapt to different audiences
- Ability to engage sensitively with victims and vulnerable individuals
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills
- Ability to produce clear, accurate, and concise reports and case files
- Effective organisational skills, including prioritising workloads and meeting deadlines

Candidates who are currently PIP Level 1 qualified and are seeking to develop and accredit to PIP level 2 are welcome to apply. If successful you would be employed as a PSI level 1, and once PIP level 2 qualified and accredited you would commence in a PIP level 2 post. Please note, applications from PIP level 2 candidates will be prioritised.
Personal Safety Training is a mandatory requirement for the role so successful applicants will be required to complete this upon appointment.
Police officers that are due to retire or resign may apply for internally advertised police staff vacancies, provided that the start date for the role post-dates their retirement or resignation date and on the basis that appointment to the police staff role will be on a re employment basis, post retirement / resignation.
