Job Description

Bedfordshire Police are inviting applications for the role of Police Constable through the Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship. The Apprenticeship combines on-the-job learning with earning a fully funded degree, while starting a career as a police officer from day one.

We strongly advise reading the information available on our website prior to completing the application form. It contains important guidance and an overview of the entry requirements.

Bedfordshire Police is committed to fairness towards all members of the community. We welcome applications from people with a range of skills and experiences from diverse backgrounds to deliver an excellent Police service. We encourage applications from all diverse groups within our communities.

If you are successful in the police officer application process, you will be asked to provide evidence of your academic qualifications for assessment by Anglia Ruskin University.

If you do not have copies of GCSE, O Level, CSE or A-Level certificates you can request a certified statement of results. See replacement-exam-certificate information on GOV.UK. If these are not supplied when requested, this may delay progress.

Academic requirements evidence:

  • GCSE Maths and English at a minimum of grade C or 4 (or equivalent such as level 2 functional skills in Maths and English).

Additional criteria:

  • Passes in two A Levels (or equivalent) with 32 UCAS points will automatically meet academic entry requirements, or any other Level 3 qualification.
  • Applicants with fewer than 32 UCAS points may be considered if they have at least one year's employment in a role with comparable skills to policing or relevant academic study. These applicants will undertake an aptitude test followed by a suitability discussion; meeting the university entry requirements may be achieved if criteria are satisfied.

Further information on UCAS points can be found via the university guidance provided by the college.

Applicants must hold a full UK manual driving licence at the time of application. This is a mandatory requirement for all Police Officers, and applicants must meet eligibility for becoming a police officer and pass the Police Online Recruit Assessment Centre. See the College of Policing website for more information.

The next step, after a successful application and ARU review, is the virtual national assessment centres.

If you have existing service as a Police Officer, please apply through the Transferee/Rejoiner advert instead of this vacancy.

Please note: This role has been identified as high-risk for potential DNA and fingerprint contamination within forensic processes. Successful candidates will be required to provide a DNA and fingerprint elimination sample as part of pre-employment checks. The sample will be used for contamination elimination purposes and held on a secure database in accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018 and GDPR. Provision of this sample is a condition of employment for roles identified as high-risk.

This advert is due to close on 31st March 2026 at 23:55

Bedfordshire Police recognises the growing use of AI tools in preparing job applications. AI tools can help express skills and experience but must align with honesty, integrity and personal accountability. Your own experiences are important and will be assessed throughout the recruitment process, including at interview. AI cannot replace this.
