Plant Fitter Apprentice - Level 3

Location: Workshop & Site based
Contract: Full-time, Apprenticeship
Salary: Apprenticeship rate (dependent on age/experience)

Joseph Gallagher Limited is a leading civil engineering and construction business operating across the UK and internationally. We are looking for a practical, hands on Plant Fitter Apprentice to join our team and develop a career maintaining and repairing heavy plant and machinery.

This role offers the opportunity to gain real-world experience while completing a Level 3 Plant Maintenance / Engineering Technician Apprenticeship.

About the Apprenticeship

You will be enrolled on a Level 3 Plant Maintenance / Engineering Technician Apprenticeship, a nationally recognised qualification designed for those starting a career working with construction plant and machinery. The programme combines technical training with hands on experience in workshops and on live sites.

About the Role

As a Plant Fitter Apprentice, you will work alongside experienced plant fitters and engineers to support the inspection, maintenance, servicing, and repair of heavy plant and equipment used across civil engineering projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assisting with the maintenance and repair of heavy plant and machinery
  • Supporting fault finding and breakdown repairs
  • Assisting with routine servicing and preventative maintenance
  • Learning to work on hydraulic, mechanical, and basic electrical systems
  • Using tools, diagnostic equipment, and workshop machinery safely
  • Supporting plant inspections and compliance checks
  • Maintaining accurate service and maintenance records
  • Following health, safety, and environmental procedures at all times
About You

We're looking for someone who enjoys hands on, practical work and wants to build a long term career working with plant and machinery.

You will ideally have:

  • A strong interest in plant, machinery, or mechanical engineering
  • A practical mindset and willingness to learn
  • Good problem solving skills and attention to detail
  • A strong commitment to health and safety
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths (or willingness to work towards them)
  • A positive attitude, reliability, and strong work ethic

No previous plant experience is required - just enthusiasm and a desire to learn.
