We have an opportunity for an enthusiastic phlebotomist to join our friendly, teaching and training practice on a 6 month fixed term contract.
Main duties of the jobWe are looking for a Phlebotomist to draw blood, test samples and send samples to the lab. This is a rewarding job which enables you to meet and help members of the local community
One of the most important phlebotomist job duties is to properly identify patients and correctly use phlebotomy methods (e.g. venepuncture, skin Puncture). We will rely on you to preserve patient confidentiality and quality of samples.
About usThe surgery is located in the market town of Winchcombe in the North Cotswolds, six miles to the North of Cheltenham and 11 miles from Junction 9 of the M5 at Tewkesbury. We are a single site Practice.
The current practice list size is just over of 7,800 patients and around 5000 of these live in the town itself with the remaining patients residing in the rural villages that fall within our Practice boundary. Our patient cohort is largely ageing and affluent and we have very few patients of an ethnic background, but we do have some pockets of deprivation.
The Team:We have 4 Partners & 3 Salaried Doctors that work in the Practice of which two are GP Trainers. All of our GPs have areas of specific interest and take responsibility for championing these areas as Clinical Leads.
Job responsibilitiesYou will be responsible for providing a safe phlebotomy service, supporting patients and taking blood tests from different age groups ( as requested by the clinician). Also, ensuring proper labelling and handling, maintaining clinically accurate records, specimen collections and managing your own clinic, with support from the nursing team. To maintain a clean and safe environment while providing a high-quality patient care.
You will work collaboratively with the general practice team to meet the needs of patients and support the delivery of policy and procedures, providing phlebotomy guidance as required.
Assist with clerical duties, such as scheduling appointments and updating patient records.
Educate patients on the blood draw process and answer any questions.
To maintain mandatory training and remain current in practice.
Main Duties of the job: Phlebotomy - performing blood draws for diagnostic testing.
Stock management - ordering clinical supplies.
We are looking for 15 hours a week, can be flexible and would consider school hours
Person Specification Qualifications- Qualified in Phlebotomy
- GCSE grade A to C in maths and English
- Qualified to NVQ level 2 in Health and Social Care
- SystmOne advantageous
- Previously worked in primary or secondary care
