Are you a caring, patient and enthusiastic person who enjoys supporting others? We are looking for a dedicated Personal Assistant to provide one-to-one support for a non-verbal autistic individual. This is a rewarding opportunity to help someone enjoy everyday life, build confidence and reach their full potential.
The person you will be supporting is tactile, highly sensitive and has a great sense of humour. They need someone with energy, kindness and a positive attitude who can understand their needs, recognise when they may be becoming overwhelmed and respond calmly to help prevent situations from escalating. You should also feel confident supporting them during autistic meltdowns with patience, reassurance and understanding.
The role includes providing personal care, as the individual is doubly incontinent. You must be comfortable with cleaning, changing continence pads and supporting personal hygiene while always maintaining dignity and respect.

Duties include:
- Personal grooming
- Eating and drinking assistance
- Other relevant duties as required
- Bathroom assistance
- Support personal hygiene while maintaining dignity, respect and comfort
- Provide personal care, including cleaning and changing continence pads
- Respectful of the employer's privacy and confidentiality
- Reliable with good timekeeping
- Able to both follow instructions and work on own initiative
- Hygienic, tidy and well organised
- Fit and healthy to undertake the required duties
- Patient and possess excellent interpersonal skills
- Honest and cheerful
- Creative
- Able to speak and read English to a reasonable standard
- Must be comfortable with pets
- Able to always work to high standards of health & safety
- Caring, kind and considerate with a compassionate approach
- Able to recognise when someone is becoming overwhelmed and respond calmly before situations escape
- Patient and confident in supporting autistic meltdowns with understanding and reassurance
Additional requirements
Non-smoker preferred or someone willing to refrain from smoking during working hours
Notes:
All applicants must have the right to work in the UK and be willing to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check if required. If the role is offered on a self-employed basis, you will be responsible for the cost of your own DBS check.
