A Brand-New Opportunity with a Growing Accountancy Practice

I am delighted to be partnering once again with one of my long-standing accountancy practice clients based in the Midlands, who are entering an exciting new phase of organic growth.

As a result of their continued success and expanding client portfolio, they are now looking to appoint an experienced Payroll Manager to join their established team. This is a newly created position, offering the successful individual the opportunity to play a key role in the continued development of the payroll function while leading an experienced and supportive team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who has gained experience within an accountancy practice or payroll bureau environment and is looking to join a firm that genuinely values its people, invests in development, and promotes a collaborative working culture.

The Opportunity

As Payroll Manager, you will take ownership of a busy and varied payroll department, overseeing the delivery of multiple client payrolls while providing leadership, guidance and support to the payroll team.

You'll work closely with a diverse portfolio of clients, building strong relationships and acting as their trusted payroll expert, ensuring every payroll is processed accurately, compliantly and on time.

Alongside the day-to-day management of payroll operations, you'll have the opportunity to identify improvements, implement best practice and contribute to the ongoing success of the department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, mentor and develop the payroll team, supporting both their professional development and day-to-day performance.
  • Manage the end-to-end payroll process for a varied portfolio of clients across multiple payroll frequencies.
  • Act as the main point of contact for payroll queries, providing an exceptional level of service to clients and colleagues.
  • Process both standard and more complex payrolls accurately and within agreed deadlines.
  • Manage the onboarding of new payroll clients and oversee the seamless transition of payroll services.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through proactive communication and trusted advice.
  • Establish and administer workplace pension schemes, including pension submissions and resolving related queries.
  • Manage auto-enrolment responsibilities and pension re-declarations in line with current legislation.
  • Ensure compliance with PAYE, National Insurance, statutory payments, pensions and all current UK payroll legislation.
  • Keep abreast of legislative changes and drive continuous improvements across payroll processes and procedures.
About You

The ideal candidate will be an experienced payroll professional who enjoys leading people, delivering exceptional client service and working within a busy accountancy practice environment.

You'll be highly organised, technically strong and someone who takes real pride in delivering an accurate and professional payroll service.

Essential Experience
  • A minimum of three years' payroll experience.
  • Previous experience working within an accountancy practice or payroll bureau.
  • Experience using BrightPay payroll software.
  • Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation and compliance.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong organisational and time management abilities with the capacity to manage multiple deadlines.
  • High attention to detail and a methodical approach to work.
  • Confident using Microsoft Excel.
Why This Role?

Having worked closely with this practice, I know first-hand that they place great importance on looking after their people. They have built an excellent reputation for delivering outstanding client service while maintaining a supportive and collaborative working environment.

This new opportunity has been created through continued growth rather than replacement, making it an exciting time to join the business. If you're looking for a role where you can genuinely make an impact, lead a successful payroll function and continue developing your career within a progressive accountancy practice, I would love to hear from you.
