Job Description

The Payroll Manager will ensure all employees are paid their correct earnings on time each month and that the associated transactions are processed and reflected properly in the bank account and financial statements. They will ensure that all employee payments and rewards satisfy national laws and guidelines.

Responsible for the monthly payroll run, the role will liaise with employees, HR, Group and our outsourced payroll and pension advisors as well as HMRC; and use best practise to deliver a quality service to the business, effectively and efficiently. The role will be responsible for the development of strong internal financial controls and actively contribute to raising the quality and standard of financial information, financial behaviour and financial support throughout the business.

Key Responsibilities Paying employees correctly and on time
  • Own and manage the full payroll payment cycle, including working with HR to understand movements in the month and then relating those to our payroll bureau.
  • Answering employee questions about payroll both proactively in terms of rolling out new details and reactively via the payroll inbox.
  • Verifying changes to employee payments, remunerations and rewards.
  • Calculating overtime, salary increases, shift payments and processing holiday, sick and maternity pay.
  • Managing payments associated with expenses.
  • Check and manage amendments for example SAYE, SIP, Smart Tech, Kiddi vouchers, Cycle to Work, Go Green Car Scheme, holiday deductions, etc.
  • Set up staff payroll payments for agreed payment date.
  • Regulatory compliance matrix
    • Ensure compliance with laws and regulations.
    • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and standards.
    • Maintaining compliant policies and procedures.
    • Deducting tax and national insurance payments.
    • Build robust financial policies, procedures and approval frameworks.
    • Prepare annual, quarterly or monthly Company regulatory requirements including relevant HMRC monthly and yearly notifications and returns, including PSA, P11Ds, P46, P45, P32, etc.
    • Prepare relevant support to company auditors, insurers, HMRC & other stakeholders.
Process, Reporting & Systems Development
  • Recording payroll data in the company's software system, creating and posting the journals and providing departmental analysis.
  • Liaise with our pensions provider for changes and updates.
  • Work with Group on changes to any shares/ SIP/ CSOP schemes.
  • Overhaul the current reporting and management excel sheets to foster simplicity and understanding at both company and group level.
  • Identify and develop opportunities for process improvements to enhance financial reporting and internal controls.
Other
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring effective, consistent, and compliant service delivery.
  • Coach non-finance stakeholders to improve financial understanding and decision-making.
  • Support the finance team with general payroll administration.
  • Other ad hoc duties as and when required to support the Head of Finance & Accounting, Group Reporting (relating to payroll) and wider business.
Skills, Experience & Personal Attributes
  • Comprehensive understanding of tax, payroll laws, payroll software and Excel.
  • Proven experience in a manufacturing or similar environment would be an advantage.
  • Deductive reasoning for analysing raw payroll data and using it to develop and refine payroll policies.
