CubeMatch is seeking an experienced Payments Solution Architect to provide strategic and hands on architectural leadership across complex payments environments within a regulated financial services organisation. The successful candidate will act as the subject matter expert and design authority for payments platforms, owning end to end solution architecture and ensuring alignment with business objectives, technical standards, regulatory requirements, and operational resilience expectations. This role requires a strong blend of architecture expertise, payments domain knowledge, and technical leadership, with responsibility for shaping architecture strategy, reviewing and approving solution designs, supporting delivery teams, and driving consistency across modernisation, migration, reconciliation, and transformation initiatives. The ideal candidate will be a trusted advisor who can bridge business, architecture, and engineering teams while providing clear technical direction and governance across multiple programmes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as the Payments Architecture SME and Design Authority across strategic and tactical initiatives.
  • Own end to end payment solution designs, ensuring alignment with business, technical, operational, and regulatory requirements.
  • Define, maintain, and govern payments architecture standards, patterns, and reference architectures.
  • Review, approve, and provide oversight for solution designs across multiple payments programmes and projects.
  • Produce and review architecture deliverables including HLDs, LLDs, sequence diagrams, integration flows, and architecture decision records.
  • Provide hands on technical leadership and guidance to engineering and delivery teams.
  • Support the design and implementation of payment modernisation, migration, reconciliation, and transformation initiatives.
  • Act as the escalation point for complex payments related technical and architectural decisions.
  • Ensure solutions are designed with resilience, security, availability, auditability, and risk management principles embedded.
  • Define and validate disaster recovery, failover, monitoring, and operational support models.
  • Represent Payments Architecture at governance forums, architecture review boards, and programme design sessions.
  • Collaborate with business, technology, security, risk, operations, and programme stakeholders to deliver successful outcomes.
  • Drive architectural consistency and quality across concurrent payments initiatives.
Qualifications / Essential Skills & Attributes
  • Extensive experience as a Payments Architect, Banking Architect, or Principal Solution Architect within a regulated financial services environment.
  • Proven experience acting as a Design Authority or SME for enterprise payments solutions.
  • Strong hands on architecture background with the ability to engage in detailed technical design discussions.
  • Deep understanding of end to end payment lifecycles, including initiation, processing, posting, reconciliation, settlement, and reporting.
  • Expertise in payment processing models, including batch, bulk, near real time, and real time processing.
  • Strong knowledge of domestic clearing, settlement, reconciliation, financial controls, and ledger alignment.
  • Experience designing event driven, API led, messaging, and integration based architectures.
  • Knowledge of resilience, disaster recovery, high availability, observability, and operational support frameworks.
  • Experience working across core banking systems, payment engines, and enterprise integration platforms.
  • Strong understanding of risk, security, regulatory compliance, and audit requirements within financial services.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and governance skills.
  • Ability to bridge business, architecture, and engineering teams effectively.
  • Strong decision making skills with a pragmatic, delivery focused approach.
  • Experience working in complex, large scale transformation programmes.
  • Knowledge of cloud based architectures and modern technology platforms while maintaining awareness of legacy and hybrid environments.
