Job Description

The Patient Flow Nurse Specialist role at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre NHS Foundation Trust is a vital position within the Acute Care Division. The job involves facilitating patient admissions, discharges, and transfers, ensuring patients are placed in appropriate areas while maintaining high levels of patient care and safety. Main duties of the job

The Patient Flow Nurse Specialist is responsible for overseeing and facilitating the efficient movement of patients throughout their cancer care journey. The main duties include:

  • Patient Flow Management: Monitor and coordinate patient admissions, transfers, and discharges to ensure timely and efficient patient movement across the hospital.
  • Quality and Safety: Ensure patients receive an excellent standard of care and work within the teams to enhance and continuously improve patient experience.
  • Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with clinical and non-clinical teams to facilitate patient care and address any barriers to patient flow.
  • Data Management: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of patient movements, delays, and other relevant data to support decision-making and reporting.
  • Communication: Serve as a point of contact for internal and external stakeholders regarding patient flow issues, providing timely updates and information as needed.
  • Problem-Solving: Identify and address issues affecting patient flow, implementing solutions to minimise delays and improve efficiency.
  • Policy Adherence: Ensure compliance with hospital policies and procedures related to patient flow and contribute to the development and review of these policies.

This role is pivotal in ensuring that patients receive timely and coordinated care, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the cancer services provided by The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • 1st level Nurse (RGN) with UK Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)
  • BSc. Nursing, Health or management-related studies or above or equivalent, or evidence of ability to work at that level
  • Evidence of consistent professional and educational development
  • ENB 998 or equivalent teaching/mentorship course
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word & Excel
  • Recognised Management Qualification or relevant management experience
Knowledge
  • Understanding of the political and strategic health agendas, including the impact of such at the operational level
  • Innovative and enthusiastic
  • High-level negotiation and influencing skills
  • Ability to cultivate positive relationships with teams to enable effective communication at times of significant operational pressure
  • Ability to develop, plan, and implement short and long-range goals
  • Ability to network and seek out best practice pathways
Experience
  • Significant post-registration experience across a range of clinical specialties
