Job Description

Pastoral Support Assistant - KS2 SEN Alternative Provision (New Forest)

A nurturing KS2 alternative provision in the New Forest is seeking a Pastoral Support Assistant to provide consistent, relational and highly personalised 1:1 support to pupils with a range of SEN and SEMH needs. The provision delivers a broad, balanced and diverse curriculum through a therapeutic, sensory, practical and outdoor-based approach, tailored to each child's individual development and wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver calm, relational and 1:1 pastoral support to KS2 pupils with diverse SEN/SEMH needs
  • Support pupils with emotional regulation, anxiety, sensory needs, transitions and social communication
  • Engage children through therapeutic, sensory, practical and outdoor learning activities
  • Promote emotional wellbeing, safety and positive behaviour using nurturing, trauma-informed approaches
  • Help pupils build communication, self-regulation, social skills, independence and confidence
  • Build trusting relationships through patience, empathy and clear communication
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists and pastoral staff to provide holistic support
  • Contribute to a safe, structured and emotionally supportive learning environment

Contract Details

  • Location: New Forest
  • Position: Pastoral Support Assistant - KS2 SEN Alternative Provision
  • Start Date: September 2026 or ASAP
  • Contract Type: Full-time
  • Working Hours: 08:30 - 16:30 Monday - Friday
  • Pay Rate: From £14.25 per hour

Requirements

  • Right to Work in the UK
  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to apply)
  • References covering the last 24 months
  • Level 2/3 qualification in childcare/education/health & social care or relevant SEN/SEMH experience
