Denzil Jacobs Occupational Therapy Practice is seeking a compassionate, experienced, and suitably qualified Psychotherapist to support the emotional, behavioural, and mental health needs of children and adolescents. The practice specialises in occupational therapy for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Down Syndrome, Developmental Coordination Disorder (Dyspraxia), and other neurodivergent profiles. This role is vital in complementing therapeutic outcomes by addressing the psychological and emotional challenges that often accompany sensory, social, and motor difficulties.

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver individual and/or group psychotherapy sessions to clients aged 3-18, focusing on those diagnosed or presenting with:
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Dyspraxia / DCD
  • Down Syndrome
  • ADHD
  • General anxiety or emotional dysregulation
• Collaborate closely with the occupational therapist(s) to develop and implement holistic, individualised therapy plans.
• Conduct psychosocial assessments, behavioural screenings, and mental health evaluations as needed.
• Support parents and caregivers with psychoeducation, behavioural strategies, and emotional support.
• Provide guidance on emotional regulation, self-esteem, peer relationships, and coping skills relevant to neurodivergent profiles.
• Maintain thorough, confidential client records in line with HPCSA and POPIA regulations.
• Contribute to multidisciplinary case discussions and team feedback sessions.
• Offer crisis intervention and referral support where complex psychological concerns are identified.
• Where appropriate, liaise with school staff or external professionals involved in the client's care.

Required Qualifications & Competencies:

• Master's Degree in Psychology or Clinical Social Work
• Registration with the HPCSA (Health Professions Council of South Africa) or relevant board
• Minimum of 3-5 years' experience working with children and adolescents, preferably with neurodevelopmental conditions
• Autism, Down Syndrome, Dyspraxia, ADHD
• Sensory Integration and behavioural presentations
• Training or certification in play therapy, CBT, or trauma-informed care is advantageous
• Strong interpersonal, communication and collaboration skills
• High emotional intelligence and a deep commitment to working respectfully with families of diverse backgrounds
• Experience in multi-disciplinary clinical settings (especially working alongside OTs or speech therapists)
• Familiarity with therapeutic tools and software for neurodivergent children
• Flexible, child-centred and adaptive therapeutic style
