Part-Time Consultant Psychiatrist

In this position, you will join an experienced inpatient Mental Health service providing care for men with personality disorders and mental health conditions, focusing on equipping patients with skills for community living.

You will hold overall clinical responsibility for the 24-hour management of in-patients, including assessments for referrals, overseeing the Care Programme Approach, and delegating responsibilities to Associate Specialists and other medical staff.

As a member of the Medical Directorate, you will advise the wider team on psychiatric and medical concerns, and design and deliver training to staff across disciplines, especially medical staff.

Ty Grosvenor is located in Wrexham, accessible from Chester, Crewe, Ruthin, Whitchurch, and nearby areas.

Your responsibilities will include:

1. Developing and reviewing Directorate policies and procedures to meet statutory requirements
2. Making responsible Medical Officer arrangements for 24-hour coverage
3. Managing operations within standards, targets, and timetables as per the Medical Service Level Agreement
4. Administering the Mental Health Act, Clinical Policy, Standards, and related administrative tasks
5. Providing professional leadership, managing, and evaluating medical services through audits, ensuring research-based and high-standard practice
6. Sharing responsibility with GPs for appropriate medical services
7. Providing holiday and sickness cover for other Consultants as needed

To succeed in this role, you should:

• Be medically qualified, with MRC Psych or equivalent
• Be innovative, imaginative, and capable of initiating decisions
• Have a good understanding of current developments in psychiatry and mental health
• Possess knowledge of change management, relevant legislation, and contemporary mental health issues
• Have previous experience as a Consultant in a management role
