Job Title: Parliamentary Assistant
Location: Westminster, London
Salary: £28,114 - £45,141 per annum (dependent on experience)
Contract: Full-Time
Salary Band: London
The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the MP is fully briefed and informed on policy, legislative and constituency matters. The role requires excellent research, communication and organisational skills, alongside a strong understanding of parliamentary processes and current affairs.
Key Responsibilities- Analyse, evaluate and interpret information to ensure the MP is accurately informed on key issues.
- Conduct research on a range of policy and parliamentary subjects.
- Prepare high-quality briefing notes for debates, committees, parliamentary questions and meetings.
- Help draft speeches, press releases, reports, amendments and other external communications.
- Advise the MP on policy matters and upcoming parliamentary business.
- Monitor legislation, debates, Hansard, motions and parliamentary activity relevant to the MP's interests and constituency priorities.
- Ensure the MP is fully briefed on potential questions, motions and contributions to be put before the House.
- Compile briefing packs, attend meetings, take notes and draft appropriate follow-up submissions.
- Monitor local, regional and national media coverage and provide timely briefings on relevant developments.
- Monitor social media activity and report key trends and issues.
- Respond to routine correspondence and enquiries.
- Maintain effective diary management and administrative support.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with constituents, stakeholder groups, parliamentary colleagues and external organisations.
- Ensure records and information are managed securely and in compliance with data protection legislation.
- Engage professionally, confidentially and with integrity when dealing with members of the public via telephone, email, social media and face to face.
- Have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Possess strong research and analytical abilities.
- Demonstrate a good understanding of Parliament, the legislative process and current political issues.
- Be able to present complex information clearly and concisely.
- Have excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Be proactive, adaptable and capable of working under pressure to tight deadlines.
- Show strong attention to detail and sound judgement.
- Be committed to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
The role may require occasional travel and work outside standard office hours to support parliamentary business, events and meetings.
