Thepost is for a Clinical Fellow in Paediatric Neurology and is particularlysuited to someone hoping to gain more paediatric neurology experience prior toentering speciality training and considering some out of programme experience.The post will be based at Leeds Childrens Hospital, Leeds General Infirmary.The successful candidate will join the team of Paediatric Neurologists inproviding tertiary Paediatric Neurology services for Leeds and West Yorkshire.
Thedepartment of paediatric neurosciences provides services to the children ofWest, East and North Yorkshire together with NE Lincolnshire, serving apopulation of 1 million children from a diverse range of backgrounds.
Inpatientservices are based at the Leeds Childrens Hospital within a dedicatedpaediatric neurosciences unit, where children are jointly cared for bypaediatric neurologists and neurosurgeons. There are strong links with allother paediatric subspecialties co-located in the Childrens Hospital includingthe regional neonatal and paediatric intensive care units.
Main duties of the jobSupportinpatients under the paediatric neuroscience teams (neurology andneurosurgery).
Reviewof acute consultations in Paediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care Units, generalpaediatric and other co-located specialities.
Attendanceand participation at departmental MDTs.
Organisationand follow-up of inpatient and outpatient investigations.
Oncall cover
Asa senior trainee the post holder would be expected to hold the hospital arrestbleep as per rota.
Outof hour cover either general paediatric assessment unit or inpatients(including paediatric diabetes, rheumatology, endocrinology) or paediatricspecialities (Neurosciences, Hepatology, Nephrology, Gastroenterology, Oncology& Haematology).
Undertakeoutpatient clinics along-side a supervising Consultant Paediatric Neurologistwith appropriate supervision and admin support.
Governance
Participationand attendance in departmental governance meetings and programme.
Teaching
Participationand attendance at the departmental rolling teaching programme.
Deliveringteaching sessions to the hospital lower speciality teaching programme.

Thepaediatric neuroscience team benefit from the support of neuroradiology,neurophysiology, neuropathology and genetics services.
Neurologysubspecialty clinics are provided in neuromuscular, epilepsy, VNS, ketogenicdiet, Dravet, TS clinics, neurovascular, headache and for those with acquiredand inherited white matter disorders.

2.OBJECTIVES OF THE POST
Thepostholder will support the inpatient need of patients under the paediatricneurosciences teams (neurology and neurosurgery). We are a busy tertiaryneurosciences unit embedded within a large childrens hospital with aPaediatric Intensive Care Unit ensuring the postholder will gain experience ina wide-range of neurological disorders.
Thepostholder will actively contribute and attend the neuroscience meetingsincluding: neuro-oncology; neuroradiology; histopathology, neurophysiologyand neurogenetics meeting.
Person Specification Qualifications- MB BS or equivalent
- Eligible for full registration with the GMC at the time of appointment and hold a current licence to practice
- Membership examination of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health or equivalent
- Eligibility to work in the UK
- Completion of Level 1 training in a paediatric training programme in the United Kingdom (or equivalent - 36 months experience in Paediatric Medicine)
- Interest in Paediatric Neurology
- Previous post in Paediatric Neurology
- Experience of managing children with neurological or chronic disorders
- Experience in the management of children and young people
- Advanced Paediatric Life Support (or equivalent)
- Experience of research in paediatrics/paediatric neurology
- Publications in nationally and internationally recognised peer reviewed journals on subjects relevant to the speciality
- Presentation at national or international meetings/conferences on subjects relevant to the speciality
- Demonstrable skill in written and spoken English that are adequate to enable effective communication with patients and colleagues
- The ability to be sensitive and empathetic and to take others perspectives and treat them with understanding
- Understanding and interest in research
- Undergone training in teaching
- Undergone training in research or be able to evidence ability to carry out medical research
