My client is seeking a highly capable Operations Manager to join their organisation in a key leadership position. This role is central to the effective management of marine activities, container park operations, and warehousing facilities, ensuring seamless day-to-day performance across all operational areas.
The Operations Manager will be accountable for upholding exceptional standards of safety, efficiency, and productivity across all quay-side operations. Working in close partnership with senior leadership, the role will play a critical part in delivering strategic initiatives that support continuous improvement, encourage cross-team collaboration, and align operational performance with long-term business objectives.
Success in this position requires a proven track record of delivering results across the responsibilities outlined below.
Key Responsibilities- Direct and manage daily marine operations, leading a varied operational workforce across vessel operations, container park, and warehousing
- Set the standard for safety, efficiency, and professionalism through strong, visible leadership
- Apply effective decision-making and problem-solving skills to manage operational challenges
- Ensure full compliance with health and safety legislation, environmental requirements, and port regulations
- Regularly evaluate operational processes to identify and implement performance improvements
- Drive initiatives that increase productivity, minimise operational downtime, and maximise the efficient use of staff, equipment, and facilities
- Develop, manage, and oversee budgets for marine and operational functions
- Monitor financial performance and costs to ensure value-driven and efficient resource management
- Support the creation and delivery of long-term operational strategies in line with organisational objectives
- Produce and present detailed operational performance reports for senior management
- Act as a primary point of contact between operational teams and senior leadership
- Maintain effective working relationships with external stakeholders, including shipping agents, suppliers, and customers
- At least 5 years' operational management experience within the port and shipping sector
- Strong knowledge of port operations, logistics, warehousing, and distribution environments
- A commercially focused mindset, with the ability to make informed decisions that enhance operational efficiency and profitability
