We're recruiting Operational Support Officers (OSOs) for night shifts as part of our team at HMP and YOI Doncaster.

These roles are critical to the safe, secure and effective running of the establishment and provide essential operational support to frontline prison staff.

The role:

As an Operational Support Officer, you will play a key role in maintaining the day-to-day operation of the prison. While this is not a Prison Officer role, it is operationally focused and based within a secure environment. Depending on the position, duties may include:

  • Managing entry and exit points to the prison, including gate operations
  • Controlling access for staff, visitors, contractors and vehicles
  • Supporting internal prison operations and movement control
  • Monitoring security systems and communications
  • Carrying out searches and security checks in line with procedures
  • Supporting night-time operations where required
  • Conducting welfare checks on prisoners and monitoring prisoners during the night
  • Completing accurate records and reports
  • Working closely with Prison Officers and other operational teams

You will be expected to follow strict security protocols at all times and contribute to a safe and professional working environment.

Please note: some roles may require flexibility to attend mandatory training, including on non-rostered days.

What we're looking for

We're looking for reliable, professional people who can remain calm under pressure and follow procedures accurately. You don't need previous prison experience, but you should be able to demonstrate:

  • A responsible and professional approach
  • The ability to work as part of a team
  • Confidence working in a secure, regulated environment
  • Good attention to detail and record-keeping
  • Flexibility is essential to work shifts, including nights and weekends where required
