The Opportunity:
Under limited supervision, responsibilities include assisting with facilities and laboratory operations, customer service delivery, and environmental health/safety. Serve as a relationship leader to the customer and licensees. Communicate safety initiatives and other customer information to ensure compliance with site SOPs.
Avantor Services provides a broad range of on-site Laboratory Services for major pharmaceutical clients, collaborating to enhance scientific activities and laboratory productivity.
AstraZeneca seeks an individual within Avantor Services to join the Separation Sciences Group in the Early Oncology Chemistry department as a Research Technician.
This role supports laboratory operations, enabling R&D scientists to focus on their core tasks. The group primarily supports early drug discovery through analysis, purification, and characterization of novel drug products. The role is lab-based, providing technical support in accordance with SHE guidelines and Good Laboratory Standards.
Key tasks & Responsibilities
- Provide technical and operational support for the Separation Science team, including maintenance of instruments using established procedures.
- Assist in analytical testing, such as analysis of crude samples and QC of purified materials using HPLC-MS and SFC-MS.
- Support automated platforms to ensure timely delivery of purified samples for biological testing.
- Perform routine instrument maintenance, calibration, and testing.
- Coordinate with engineers and external vendors for scheduled maintenance.
- Participate in meetings and presentations as required.
- Maintain high Safety, Health, and Environmental standards (SHE).
- Work collaboratively with the team to meet goals and objectives.
- Follow established methods and SOPs.
- Prepare data summaries and discuss results.
- Author reports and process documentation.
- Maintain stock levels of reagents and buffers.
- Manage samples within Separation Sciences.
- Keep the team informed of developments and results.
- Promote AstraZeneca and Avantor SHE practices.
Skills, Knowledge & competencies
- HND or BSc in Chemistry or Life Sciences; understanding of drug discovery is advantageous but not essential.
- Practical experience in an analytical chemistry lab.
- Accurate pipetting skills.
- Chromatography experience (HPLC) is advantageous but not essential.
- Experience with automation/liquid handling systems is advantageous but not essential.
- Enthusiastic, adaptable, eager to learn.
- High attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Good organizational and planning abilities.
- Customer service oriented and collaborative.
- Effective time management, capable of handling multiple tasks.
- Ability to work independently and in a team.
- Understanding of internal and external team interactions within Avantor.
- Proficient in IT skills, including MS Word and Excel.
- Knowledge of Good Laboratory Standards.
