Opportunity

We are seeking dedicated and enthusiastic individuals to join our on call firefighter team. As an on call firefighter, you will play a crucial role in responding to emergencies and keeping your community safe. During your available hours you must be within approximately four minutes of the fire station, ensuring a rapid response when duty calls. You'll also attend a weekly training evening to develop your skills and team camaraderie.

What You'll Do

An on call firefighter for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (NYFRS) has several key responsibilities:

  • Declare the times when you are available to respond to emergencies.
  • Be within approximately four minutes of the assigned fire station during your available hours.
  • Attend weekly training evenings covering firefighting techniques, first aid, and equipment usage.
Key Requirements
  • Live or work within four minutes of a fire station.
  • Be at least 18 years old, physically fit, and able to pass fitness, strength, and medical assessments, including a breathing apparatus test.
  • Hold a full UK manual driving licence.
  • Have the right to work in the UK with no restrictions on employment.
  • For internal applicants, have successfully completed your probation period.
  • Demonstrate teamwork, problem solving skills, and the ability to stay calm under pressure.
  • Show a high level of commitment and availability for duty at agreed upon times.
  • Be willing to engage in fire prevention activities and maintain community ties.
