Offshore Geotechnical Engineer
Posted 1 day 8 hours ago by DNV Germany Holding GmbH
Are you passionate about shaping the future of offshore wind? At DNV, we're looking for an experienced and motivated Offshore Geotechnical Engineer to join our global Renewables Certification team.
In this exciting role, you'll work on certification activities for offshore wind farms across the globe, spanning various design stages including concept development, FEED, design basis, detailed design, and installation. The scope covers key wind farm assets such as wind turbine foundations, seabed cables, offshore substations, and floating offshore wind structures.
You will engage in constructive technical discussions with designers and developers in the offshore wind industry, adding value and helping to de-risk projects. You'll have the opportunity to contribute to a wide range of ongoing offshore wind projects globally, as well as participate in the technical qualification of new concepts, prototypes, and Joint Industry Projects related to geotechnics. You will also be involved in the development of DNV's technical standards.
This role can be based either in the United Kingdom or Taiwan, offering flexibility to join our expert team from one of two strategic locations.
As Offshore Geotechnical Engineer you will manage your own projects with a high degree of autonomy, supported by experienced mentors and senior engineers. Additionally, you'll contribute to the development of the team's technical competencies, enhancing your professional skills through involvement in high-profile global engineering projects for some of the industry's leading organisations.
Key Competences:
- Strong knowledge in effects of cyclic loads on soil stiffness, axial and lateral soil bearing capacity, with focus on large diameter monopiles and jacket foundation on piles and suction buckets.
- Track record of geotechnical calculation optimization tools and design methodologies implementation for in-place analysis and load calculations by scripting in Python/MATLAB and soil reaction implementation in computer models.
- Track record in suction bucket design, for in-place and installation analysis, including FE-Analysis.
- Track record of implementing soil damping and seismic design and assessment of soil liquefaction for different types of foundation typologies.
- Track record of foundation design in challenging soil conditions for APAC market, like Taiwan.
- Experience with ground investigation, ground modelling and geotechnical interpretation for design.
- Team player, understanding the challenges to work across different locations and diverse teams, with focus on training and enhancing the team's competencies and positive attitude towards new challenges.
At DNV, we're not just offering you a job - we're offering a purpose. Our focus is on the future: Building a safer, more sustainable maritime industry!
- Attractive rewards. We offer a comprehensive benefits package, including competitive salary, pension, insurances, and parental leave agreements, in addition to a global profit share scheme.
- Supportive and caring culture. Our international culture embodies diverse colleagues who value teamwork and inclusion. We offer opportunities for our employees to connect through social and professional networks.
- Career and development. We offer extensive possibilities to grow and develop your competencies and career ambitions. Our strong company culture emphasizes a growth mindset, knowledge sharing, and professional and personal development.
- By joining DNV you become part of a world-leading company whose purpose is to safeguard life, property, and the environment. Our values"we care, we share, we dare"characterize how we work and behave towards each other and our customers.
We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Geotechnical Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have:
- Demonstrable experience: Proven expertise in geotechnical engineering consultancy, with a proven track record of successful delivery of geotechnical analysis in offshore wind or oil and gas projects.
- Technical expertise: You will be responsible for delivering technical work and managing a variety of exciting offshore projects, including floating wind. Your role will involve verifying and certifying projects according to relevant international standards, reviewing geotechnical data, ground models, and design soil profiles, and identifying any related risks or geotechnical hazards.
- Analytical skills: You will perform calculations for soil-structure interactions, effects of cyclic loading on soil behaviour, earthquake, soil liquefaction, and scour assessment for monopiles, jacket piles, suction buckets, and gravity-based structure foundations, often using 2D and 3D Finite Element Analysis.
- Foundation analysis: You will conduct foundation analyses to determine the appropriate in-place capacities and stiffnesses used in the assessments of the structure and integrated load calculations.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrable experience in some or all of the following areas:
- Geophysical and geotechnical interpretation of soil data from offshore sites
- Soil and rock mechanics
- Relevant European and international offshore design codes and standards
- Numerical analysis using FEM for soil-structure interaction
- Offshore structure installation of monopiles, jacket piles, and suction buckets
- Offshore substation foundation
- Anchorage and station-keeping systems for floating wind
- Seabed cables, seabed morphology, cable burial risk assessment, and trenchability
- Earthquake and seismic soil design, including liquefaction assessment
- Advanced soil testing and its interpretation
- Effects of dynamic loading on soil strength and stiffness
- Computational geotechnical calculations and scripting optimization of processes
