The Ocean Import Clerk based in Coventry will manage full-cycle import shipments within a leading logistics firm. This permanent, full-time role operates Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:30pm, with hybrid working offering one home-based day weekly. The position involves overseeing cargo from origin to final delivery, ensuring customs compliance, operational accuracy, and customer satisfaction. Candidates should possess strong organisational abilities and a client-focused approach. Prior freight forwarding experience is essential. The salary ranges from £25,000 to £30,000 per annum, reflecting the specialist nature of this work.
About the RoleWe are looking for an organised and customer-focused Ocean Import Operator to join the Freight Forwarding team of a leading worldwide logistics company. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced freight forwarding professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is committed to delivering outstanding customer service. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing ocean import shipments from origin through to final delivery, ensuring all operational, customs and customer requirements are met while maintaining the highest standards of accuracy, compliance and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities- Manage ocean import shipments from booking through to final delivery.
- Liaise with overseas offices, shipping lines, hauliers, customs brokers and customers to ensure the smooth movement of freight.
- Arrange customs clearance and ensure all import documentation is completed accurately and in compliance with relevant regulations.
- Monitor shipment progress and proactively resolve any delays or operational issues.
- Provide customers with regular updates throughout the shipment lifecycle.
- Process supplier invoices, complete accurate customer billing and ensure files are closed within company KPIs.
- Maintain compliance with customs regulations, company procedures and security requirements.
- Work closely with internal departments to deliver the highest levels of customer service.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes and contribute to continuous operational improvements.
- Essential: Previous experience within Ocean Imports or Freight Forwarding is essential.
- Good understanding of international shipping documentation and import procedures.
- Knowledge of customs clearance processes.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise a busy workload.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
- Desirable: Experience using freight forwarding software such as CargoWise or similar systems.
- Knowledge of CDS customs entries.
- Understanding of Incoterms and international trade documentation.
