Requirements- Registered Nurse with the NMBI
- Have 5 years post registration experience as a Registered Nurse with a minimum two years' experience as an Occupational Health Nurse
- Occupational Health Qualification or equivalent
- Case Management experience
- Experience of working in a healthcare setting
- Knowledge of current theory and practice in the field of occupational health
- Experience and appreciation of working within a quality assurance environment
- Membership of Occupational Health professional network is desirable (e.g. Occupational Health Nurse Association of Ireland or INMO Occupational Health Nurse division)
- Manage time effectively

St Patrick's Mental Health Services is seeking an Occupational Health Nurse to provide a comprehensive Occupational Health Service to staff of SPMHS. The post-holder will play a key role in supporting the HR function in the management of occupational health matters. The Occupational Health Nurse will report to the Director of Nursing or nominee with functional reporting link to Director of Human Resources or nominee. The standard working week applying to the post is 37.5 hours per week.

The person appointed may be required to perform other duties as appropriate which may be assigned to them from time to time and to contribute to the development of the position. Responsibilities- Provide a comprehensive Occupational Health Service to all staff of St. Patrick's Mental Health Services.
- Work closely with relevant stakeholders in the management of staff health-related matters.
- Triaging and relevant follow up of staff work related injuries with referral to external OH where appropriate.
- Review when required the outcome of staff risk-based pre-employment health assessments.
- Health surveillance.
- Staff illness & injury (work and non-work related) absence management in conjunction with HR and as referred through management and/or HR, including referral to and consultation with external OH.
- Case management of medical aspects of staff absence due to illness and disability including risk assessment as required
- Apply a collaborative approach with management & stakeholders to rehabilitate employees and return to work.
- Coordination of mass vaccination programs for different infectious diseases with emphasis on Seasonal Influenza & Hepatitis B.
- Management of occupational blood/body fluid exposures, post exposure management.
- Good knowledge of legislative requirements, experience at policy development, implementation and review systems.
- Health Promotion & collaboration with Staff Well-being programmes.
- Maintain database of Occupational Health related instances.
- Provide statistics to senior stakeholders as required.
- Review of risk assessments with staff members (e.g. Pregnancy, remote working, ergonomic)
- Liaise with the Health and Safety Officer as required.
- Liaise with the Infection Control Officer as required.
- Management of staff Covid 19 infections in line with hospital policy.

Terms and ConditionsTenure: 1.0 WTE Full Time, Specified Purpose Contract, pensionable as below.
Working Week: The standard hours applying to this position is 37.5 hours per week worked Monday to Friday.
Salary: The salary for the position is on the SPMHS CNM 3 2026 Salary Scale €71,997 - €81,307. Location Allowance €1955. Qualification Allowance €2938. Community Allowance €5992.
Pension: All pensionable staff become members of the pension scheme upon commencement of employment. The scheme is a defined contribution scheme with a deduction 4% from the salary of the employee. In respect of an internal appointment being made the individuals existing pension arrangements will continue.
Probation: The appointee will be appointed in a probationary capacity for the first six months during which time the job holder's performance will be subject to ongoing review. Any extension to or suspension of the period of probation will be in line with the European Union (Transparent and Predictable Working Conditions) 2022.
Health: The appointee must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the position and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.
Character: The appointee must be of good character.
Retirement Age: Normal retirement age for employees is 66 years which at present is also normal pension age.
