We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, motivated Registered Nurse (Adult) with post-qualification experience and an interest in Occupational Health. The successful candidate will support the delivery of Occupational Health services within the department, hospital and community settings.
The successful candidate will join Well Being Partners, a SEQOHS accredited Occupational Health and Wellbeing partnership from Wrightington Wigan and Leigh NHS FT and Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS FT. We currently provide services to NHS clients, universities, colleges, schools and other private sector businesses.
Note: The role will be based mainly at Royal Preston Hospital and also Edge Hill University.
This vacancy is open to internal and external candidates. NHS Employees should ideally obtain their manager's agreement for a secondment prior to applying, as this is a condition of any offer.
This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term basis for 13 months to cover maternity leave and will end February 2027 or when the substantive post holder returns. There is potential that the post may become permanent in the future.
Main dutiesPlan and organise, under the guidance of the Nurse Manager, nurse-led clinics on hospital/clinic sites for health surveillance, vaccination, health discussions and advice for NHS employees and external organisations.
Undertake health assessments, health promotion, health screening, and provide advice on work health issues to managers and employees.
Conduct pre-employment health assessments; protect staff and patients against infectious disease; assess immunisation status; deliver immunisations; arrange blood testing; manage blood exposure incidents.
Assess care needs and develop, implement and evaluate care plans without supervision. Demonstrate a broad range of clinical experience.
Undertake both face-to-face and telephone consultations with excellent IT skills for computer-based clinical records.

Job responsibilitiesPlan and organise nurse-led clinics for health surveillance, vaccinations, counselling, health promotion and advice for NHS employees and external organisations.
Support the Occupational Health team in service delivery across department, hospital and community settings.
Perform pathology tests via venepuncture, liaise with laboratory staff, and conduct health screening procedures (e.g., spirometry, audiometry, skin checks, immunisations).
Assist in equipment maintenance and safe use; undertake pre-employment health assessments and obtain medical reports as appropriate; liaise with Senior Occupational Health Nurse Advisors/Consultant for further advice.
Undertake audits, risk assessments and environmental surveys; implement recommendations; manage accidental exposure to body fluids as per policy; liaise with Nurse Manager/Consultant in Occupational Medicine as needed.
Arrange and monitor referrals to the Thoracic Medicine Department in line with TB policy and contact tracing requirements.
Maintain confidential, accurate records of Occupational Health activity via computer records (OPAS G2 or service database).
Be familiar with department processes, procedures, policies and standards; undertake other reasonable duties to deliver the service.
Plan and organise wellbeing initiatives for NHS employees and external organisations.
Person specification Qualifications- Current first level registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Level 1
- Substantial post-registration experience with broad General Nursing experience
- Experience in Occupational Health Nursing including pre-employment health assessments, health surveillance, spirometry, audiometry, vaccinations, counselling
- Experience in Occupational Health within the NHS including screenings, vaccinations and management of accidental exposure to body fluids
- Implementation of health promotion initiatives
- Good teamwork and communication
- Ability to handle telephone enquiries
- Ability to liaise with all staff disciplines
- Initiative and ability to manage own caseload and meet deadlines
- Experience using databases and Excel
- Specialist occupational health skills (spirometry, audiometry, ECGs); Venepuncture and vaccination administration
- Counselling skills
- Understanding of Occupational Health Nursing
- Ongoing professional development
- Knowledge of Department of Health guidelines and health and safety legislation
- Knowledge of guidance on tuberculosis, Hepatitis B/C, HIV, measles and varicella
- Knowledge of the Equality Act
- Ability to travel independently between Trust sites and external organisations
- Flexible approach to working hours
- English language proficiency appropriate to the role
