Networks Telecoms is at the forefront of utility telecommunications, playing a critical role in the reliable operation of modern electricity networks. As a key enabler of ESB's digital strategy, the function delivers innovative and efficient telecommunications solutions that support secure and dependable energy distribution. With a strong focus on advanced technology and continuous improvement, Networks Telecoms contributes significantly to the development of smart energy systems and the transition to a more sustainable energy future. The successful candidate will play a key role in the delivery, operation, maintenance and support of Operational Technology (OT) telecommunications systems across ESB Networks and EirGrid infrastructure.
The role combines project delivery, maintenance support and technical field operations. The successful candidate will work across transmission and distribution substations, renewable generation sites, telecommunications facilities and customer locations, ensuring telecoms infrastructure is delivered and maintained safely, efficiently and to the highest engineering standards.
In support of ESB's strategic objectives of decarbonising electricity, building resilient infrastructure and empowering customers, the successful candidate will help deliver the telecommunications assets that enable Ireland's evolving electricity system.
This role will suit telecommunications, electrical or multi-disciplinary engineering professionals who enjoy a balance of field-based operational work, technical problem solving and project delivery responsibilities. On the job learning and classroom training modules will be provided for this role.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver telecoms work programmes associated with transmission, distribution, customer and renewable generation projects.
- Carry out installation, commissioning, maintenance and fault response activities on telecommunications infrastructure within ESB operational facilities.
- Support operational telecoms systems including fibre optic networks, WAN infrastructure, LTE, mobile radio, satellite communications, SCADA and protection communications systems.
- Coordinate contractors and service providers to ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently and in compliance with ESB standards.
- Perform fault investigation, testing and troubleshooting activities and take ownership of incidents through to resolution.
- Complete commissioning records, safety documentation, project updates and asset records accurately and within required timelines.
- Participate in an On-call rota.
- A minimum of 3 years relevant experience in telecommunications, electrical installations, IT/data networks, SCADA/automation systems or a related technical discipline.
- Knowledge of telecommunications technologies or telemetry systems.
- Has a safety focused approach to work duties.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication and organisational skills.
- Accuracy, thoroughness, and attention to detail.
- Adaptability and flexibility.
- Full clean EU driving license.
- Experience working on electrical systems.
- Experience with preparation of safety documentation.
- Experience with stakeholder engagement.
- Awareness of telecommunications technologies.
- Familiarity with HV environments.
- On-Call or Availability experience.
- Any Health & Safety qualifications
This position will be based in Wilton, Cork
Smart Working at ESB is designed to make 'in-person' time together as purposeful as possible while also enabling the effective use of digital tools and hybrid arrangements to preserve our commitment to flexibility. The successful candidate may work flexibly within the jurisdiction where they have been employed, with attendance at the workplace for in-person collaboration at least two days per week. All Smart Working arrangements are subject to regular review based on the operational requirements of the role, the team, and the business.

€49,000 to €56,000 per annum
