About the Role

The Team Around the School Support Hub sits within the Early Intervention, Prevention and Support (EIPS) sector of Surrey's Children, Families and Lifelong Learning (CFLL) Directorate.

We work closely with schools, early years settings, partner services and families to help children thrive in mainstream education wherever possible. Our goal is to enhance the great work already happening in schools with targeted support that makes a real difference.

Our focus is on:

  • Emerging needs
  • Pupils at SEN Support level
  • Disadvantaged pupils

We constantly evaluate our service offering to be assured of value and relational health, through whole school approaches. The service is also committed to restorative and relational practice.

The Neurodiversity Advisor role is a pivotal part of our early intervention offer. In this position you will be working as part of the Team Around the School Support Hub in close collaboration with our SEND Advisers and Team Around the School Coordinators, at times, as part of a collective response to whole school need, and at other times working on an individual basis. Therefore, an ability to manage your own work while being flexible to step in and support colleagues is essential.

Your key responsibilities as a Neurodiversity Advisor will include:

  • Working directly with identified schools to strengthen their understanding and knowledge of how to support children and young people who may be neurodivergent
  • Enhancing the excellent offer of training and outreach already available from Surrey to help school workforces feel confident in meeting the needs of children in the classroom through coaching and mentoring techniques
  • Embedding and building understanding of what is ordinarily available within universal and targeted health provision
  • Developing sustainable and enabling support mechanisms for school-based support staff
  • Scoping potential and delivering a Learning Support workforce community of practice to promote needs-led ways of working with neurodivergent cohorts
  • Initiating and implementing new programmes of training and support for frontline school support staff
  • Having an integral role in the delivery of the 'Partnerships for Inclusion of Neurodiversity in Schools' (PINS), acting as a single point of contact for up to 25 PINS schools

This role does not involve working directly with children and young people in a support capacity.

Your Application

In order to be considered for shortlisting, your application will clearly evidence the following skills and align with our behaviours :

  • Substantial experience of working with children and young people in an educational setting who are, or may be, neurodivergent or those who have experienced trauma
  • Commitment to the principles of inclusive education
  • Experience of managing small projects from implementation to evaluation
  • Comfortable presenting and delivering training to a variety of audiences
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to influence and model best practice
  • Ability to manage your own work while being flexible to step in and support colleagues

As an ambassador for Surrey County Council and the Team Around the School Hub you will be confident in engaging with school leaders and families, and always demonstrate the Surrey Way values in practice.

To apply, we request that you submit a CV and you will be asked the following 4 questions:

  • Please tell us about a time when you supported a child, young person, or group of learners who were neurodivergent or had emerging or additional needs. What was the situation, what did you do, and what difference did it make for the child or the staff involved?
  • Please describe a situation where you had to manage your own workload but also work closely with others to meet a shared goal. How did you stay organised, communicate with others, and help things move forward?
  • What interests you about becoming a Neurodiversity Advisor within the Team Around the School Support Hub? Please explain what motivates you to support inclusive education and why you feel this is the right role for you.
  • Please tell us about a small project, task or piece of work you've helped to develop or deliver to support staff, families or professionals. What was your role, how did you share information or train others, and how did you know it had worked well?

The job advert closes at 23:59 on 22/03/2026 with interviews to follow.

Before submitting your application, we recommend you read the job description and Our Life at Surrey Handbook to get an insight into working at Surrey.
