Position Overview

The Museum Education Specialist develops and executes innovative programming, implements in-gallery activities, and oversees classroom and in-gallery learning through outreach programs, hands-on workshops, and summer camps. This position will focus efforts on creating inclusive, accessible, and memorable experiences for visitors of all ages who benefit from various learning styles.

Essential Job Functions

• Develop and implement engaging programs that promote creative expression and align with the Museum's mission and core values, including hands-on workshops, in-gallery activations, and exhibition-related programs.
• Develop and manage youth summer camp experiences. Oversee summer camp interns and maintain relationships with partner organizations.
• Oversee outreach programs, including maintaining and coordinating the use of outreach trunks that bring museum content to educators and students.
• Coordinate and facilitate on-site field trips and group visits.
• Recruit, schedule, and support teaching artists, temporary staff, and volunteers working with drop-in public programs.
• Track and report program data including program surveys and participant feedback; integrate into program development to ensure engagement and identify areas for improvement.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and belonging, with a demonstrated ability to create accessible programs and work with diverse audiences.
• Knowledge of museum professional practices, with respect to education and community programs for youth, general audiences, and school programs.
• Interest in Nordic history, contemporary art, and culture.
• Ability to instruct and model art techniques across a broad range of art materials and practices, with experience developing curriculum and leading hands-on lessons for diverse abilities.

Requirements

• 2+ years of relevant experience developing and implementing programs (such as in arts outreach, educational programming, etc.) preferably in a museum or cultural nonprofit setting.
• Weekend and evening work as assigned.
• Ability to lift 20lbs.
• Ability to be seated/standing for extended periods.
