ABOUT MONTANE

For over 30 years Montane has become famous for its innovative, lightweight breathable clothing and equipment for endurance sports and outdoor activities in extreme environments. Montane specialises in creating technical outdoor clothing, backpacks and accessories, where design and performance are of the highest quality. We have a friendly, dynamic and ambitious team motivated by a love of the outdoors and with a passion for producing exceptional products. Based in the North East of England, we are represented in many territories around the world and have a head office in Northumberland along with a showroom in the Lake District.

ROLE OVERVIEW

Time in front of customers is the foundation of this role. By being present in store, you will influence sell-through, build trust with retail teams and generate the insight needed to improve trading performance.

The primary focus is to drive sales of stock already landed in our partners' stores. Through regular engagement, training and commercial conversations, you will help retailers sell better and sell faster.

Alongside this, you will manage and develop existing wholesale relationships across the region, ensuring the brand is represented at the highest standard.

This is a field-based role with significant regional travel. Most weeks will involve multiple days on the road visiting customers. For someone who enjoys being out in the market, building relationships face to face and seeing immediate impact, this is a real strength of the job and opportunity.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Sell-through first
  • Take ownership of in-season performance across your territory.
  • Work with retailers to review stock, identify risks, agree actions to improve rate of sale and maximise opportunities to drive sell through.
  • Increase staff advocacy and confidence through regular, practical product training.
  • Ensure merchandising, visibility and product presentation support conversion.
  • Use data and store insight to prioritise where effort will have the biggest impact.
Account management
  • Energised by being in the field and motivated by improving results.
  • Commercially aware and comfortable discussing sell-through and trading performance.
  • Organised and disciplined in planning journeys, visits, follow-ups and reporting.
  • Responsive to direction and able to align quickly to priorities set by the senior team.
  • Self motivated and happy working independently.
  • Passionate about the outdoor market and specialist retail.
  • Build strong, productive relationships with accounts identified by the senior sales team.
  • Maintain regular contact and structured engagement with partners.
  • Support pre season activity and future ranging conversations where required.
Enable retailers to win
  • Deliver seasonal training in store and at events.
  • Create simple, effective training tools or content where needed.
  • Act as the link between the brand and shop floor teams.
Market & business feedback
  • Provide clear, consistent reporting to the UK Sales Manager and Director.
  • Share competitor activity, customer reactions and trading opportunities.
  • Bring practical, solution focused insight into the business.
  • Take direction from the senior sales team on priorities and focus areas.
  • Contribute updates and actions in sales meetings.
  • Represent the brand as technical, credible and performance led.
Skills & behaviours

We are looking for someone who is:

  • A confident and highly effective communicator with the ability to influence at all levels in store.
  • Personable, engaging and articulate - someone retail teams enjoy working with.
