Mineral Geochemist - Isotope Geochemistry & R&D
Posted 4 hours 17 minutes ago by H-Expertise Services
Contract Type: Permanent (CDI)
Location: H-Expertise Services S.A.S., France (Flexible - exact working location may be discussed depending on partnerships with academic institutions or analytical laboratories within France).
Department: Geoscience Services
WHO WE ARE
- H-Expertise Services S.A.S. (H-ES) is a French compagny at the forefront of analytical geosciences and environmental modelling. We specialize in subsurface characterization through the integration of mineralogical, petrographic, and geochemical data to reconstruct the geological and fluid histories of reservoir systems. We support the energy transition sector - including geothermal energy, hydrogen exploration, lithium, and hydrocarbons - through advanced analytical services such as core analysis, fluid inclusion studies, stable isotope geochemistry, U-Pb geochronology, and high-resolution imaging. Our team is based in France, but depending on collaborations with academic partners and access to specific analytical platforms, the work location for this position may be discussed and adapted.
ABOUT THE ROLE
As a Mineral Geochemist with a focus on stable isotope geochemistry and commercial R&D innovation , you will take on a dual role combining scientific leadership and strategic business development. Working closely with our fluid inclusion expert, your responsibilities will include:
- Scientifically , you will lead and contribute to the production and interpretation of geo-isotopic data, mainly in carbonates and geofluids, to reconstruct the geological and thermal history of subsurface systems.
- Strategically, you will take part in developing the service portfolio by engaging with new clients, proposing analytical workflows, and initiating R&D collaborations that align with the company's growth in emerging geoscience markets.
You will serve as a key interface between the lab's analytical capabilities and its scientific and industrial partners.
KEY LABORATORY RESPONSABILITIES
Stable and radiogenic Isotope Geochemistry.
- Perform and interpret stable isotope analyses on carbonate and fluid inclusion samples. Use IRMS (e.g. Thermo MAT253) and carbonate micro-drilling system for high-precision isotopic measurements. Support clients in the integration of isotopic data into regional diagenetic and fluid flow models.
- Conduct U-Pb carbonate dating by LA-ICP-MS to constrain the timing of diagenesis, hydrocarbon migration, and tectonic activity . Interpret petrographic data using optical microscopy, cathodoluminescence (CL), and elemental mapping . Collaborate with external laboratories on clumped isotope thermometry of mineral (carbonate) and gases (CH , H ) to reconstruct thermal evolution of reservoirs and the fluids it contain.
- Fluid Inclusion Analysis. Assist in or interpret results from microthermometry to understand fluid trapping conditions and histories .
- Reporting and Integration. Compile and synthesize multi-proxy geochemical datasets for internal R&D and external client deliverables. Contribute to geomodel calibration using geochemical time markers.
Business Development & R&D Strategy
- Promote and represent the lab's analytical services in client meetings, conferences, and workshops
- Identify new commercial opportunities in subsurface exploration (e.g., geothermal, hydrogen, critical minerals)
- Initiate and propose custom analytical workflows to meet client-specific questions
- Build and maintain strong client relationships across academic, industrial, and governmental sectors
- Develop and lead internal R&D projects, including funding applications, consortium building, and publication strategy
YOUR PROFILE
- MSc or PhD in Geochemistry, Earth Sciences, or a related discipline
- Solid experience in stable isotope geochemistry, particularly in carbonates
- Hands-on with IRMS systems, micro-drilling techniques, and clumped isotope workflows
- Good knowledge of LA-ICP-MS for U-Pb geochronology is a strong advantage
- Strong critical thinking, autonomy, and scientific communication skills
- A collaborative mindset and ability to work on cross-disciplinary projects
Strong publication record
Full ability to work in English is mandatory. (French is a plus)
