Midweight Architect / Designer

Sybarite is seeking a creative and ambitious Midweight Designer / Architect with strong retail knowledge and interior-design experience to join its London studio and work on large-scale retail and mixed-use developments across China. Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to projects from concept through to Design Development, bringing together architectural thinking, retail and interior spatial planning and technical understanding. The role requires the ability to move confidently between conceptual development and the practical requirements of project delivery.

Design Development & Delivery

• Develop architectural, interior and spatial concepts for large-scale retail and mixed-use projects.
• Contribute to experience-led design solutions informed by customer journey, circulation and merchandising.
• Take ownership of defined project packages through Concept Design, Schematic Design and Design Development.
• Prepare presentations, reports, design documentation, models and technical drawing packages.
• Work closely with Directors to develop project vision and design intent.
• Balance design ambition with technical feasibility and commercial requirements.

Coordination & Communication

• Coordinate with local architects, consultants and specialist disciplines.
• Integrate architectural, interior, structural and MEP requirements into coordinated design packages.
• Support consultant coordination throughout project development.
• Present design concepts clearly to clients and project stakeholders.
• Help resolve design and technical challenges while maintaining the quality of the overall concept.

Team Contribution

• Collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.
• Support and mentor junior designers and architects.
• Contribute to design reviews, workshops and project discussions.
• Maintain high standards of design, documentation and project organisation.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

• Four to eight years' professional experience across architecture, interior design or complex mixed-use development.
• Strong experience within large-scale retail, mixed-use, hospitality or commercial projects.
• Understanding of retail interiors, customer experience, circulation, merchandising and front-of-house environments.
• Experience leading Design Development and coordinated technical drawing packages.
• Strong understanding of consultant coordination, planning principles and project-delivery processes.
• Experience with international developer or operator clients is desirable.
• Mandarin language skills are desirable.
