About the DBA Team

Our Database Administration team is responsible for maintaining the reliability, performance, and robustness of our data platforms.

We're looking for someone who:

  • Has a broad interest in technology and enjoys solving a wide range of technical issues.

  • Takes pride in maintaining high productivity, reliability, and quality standards.

  • Understands ITIL principles and continuous improvement processes.

  • Works well with DevOps, Support, QA, and Development teams - we believe in collaboration, not blame.

  • Can build strong and honest relationships with clients, including occasional visits to their offices.

  • Is open to learning new technologies and expanding their skill set.

  • Is willing to join an on-call rotation (approximately once every 4 weeks) for production issues.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain and support on-premise and Azure SQL databases (including upgrades, backups, high availability, and monitoring).

  • Optimise database Servers and SQL queries, stored procedures, and schema designs.

  • Collaborate with developers and business teams to improve SQL Server performance and usage.

  • Work with cloud-based data technologies such as Azure SQL Server and Data Lake.

Required Qualifications & Experience
  • Minimum 2:1 degree in Computer Science or a related field, ideally from a Russell Group university.

  • Minimum AAB at A-level (or equivalent).

  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server, including performance tuning, troubleshooting, and schema design.

  • Ability to diagnose and resolve database performance issues effectively.

Desirable Skills
  • High Availability (Always-On/Basic Availability Groups)

  • Backup and restore (database and transaction logs)

  • PowerShell (dbatools or SqlServer modules)

  • Performance optimisation and database monitoring

  • SQL Server configuration and maintenance (Agent Jobs, partitioning, snapshots)

  • Change data capture and SAN array knowledge (eg Nimble, PURE)

  • Experience in financial services is advantageous but not required
