MHST Highly Specialist Clinician & Supervisor

The post holder will join Camden's Mental Health Support Team (MHST) in Schools. This is a preventative and early intervention service that provides high quality support to children, young people, and families, presenting with mild moderate mental health struggles. Support to schools includes delivering evidence based interventions through universal (e.g. whole school approach), targeted (e.g. class or small group intervention) and individual one to one therapeutic support. It also includes providing consultation, advice and sign posting. Our work endeavours to join with schools in promoting a positive ethos and culture surrounding the social, emotional and mental health of the entire school community.

Main duties of the job

MHST Highly Specialist Clinicians and Supervisors hold their own clinical caseload and undertake comprehensive clinical assessments and develop formulations to guide treatment plans that are outcome focused and evidence based, using appropriate therapeutic modalities. The post also involves holding a Senior Link role with a patch of schools and working jointly with MHST School Practitioners to develop and sustain working relationships with the school community by supporting the Designated Mental Health Leads as well as providing advice, sign posting and consultation. To expand the team's service offer the post holder will take a lead role in service development initiatives, evaluation, develop training programmes and other intervention packages in keeping with service objectives. A key responsibility of this post is providing internal team support through individual and group supervision. The post holder will be required to hold some risk, therefore will complete comprehensive risk assessments and respond appropriately.

This is a community based post, with most of the work taking place in school settings or other community settings. The post holder must be able to work collaboratively with other members of the team, staff from other teams as well as with our allied partners across education, health, social care and the charity sector.

As a highly specialist and senior member of the team, the role will involve taking up delegated managerial tasks.

Job responsibilities

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Degree level as a minimum plus developed specialist and practical knowledge equating to postgraduate degree/ Masters level
  • Registration with relevant body as a Clinical Psychologist, Educational Psychologist, Counselling Psychologist, Social Worker, Mental Health Nurse, Psychodynamic Psychotherapist, or Family & Systemic Psychotherapist.
  • Postgraduate training in CBT, at an accreditation standard with the British Association for Behavioural & Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP).
  • Additional postgraduate training in specific therapy and/ group or interventions.
  • Additional training in providing individual and group Supervision
Experience
  • Substantial post qualification experience delivering psychological assessments and evidence based interventions.
  • Evidence of clinical experience of working with client population in school settings.
  • A clear track record of managing complexity and risk whilst maintaining high standards of service delivery.
  • A comprehensive understanding of the changing NHS and Education environment and the challenges they face.
  • Experience of working at all levels of the system with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience of clinical management of staff.
  • Experience of involvement in project work, e.g. quality improvement.
  • Experience of developing and delivering training.
  • Experience using routine outcome measures.
Skills
  • Ability to use a broad theoretical knowledge base to formulate complex cases and select from a range of treatment options based on a contextualised formulation.
  • Highly developed skills in communicating complex, technical, and clinically sensitive information, both orally and in writing, to service users, their families, carers, and professional colleagues.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to plan, prioritise, and manage a demanding workload autonomously.
  • Competent IT skills, including the use of Microsoft Office and clinical record keeping systems.
  • Ability to teach and train others.
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of Mental Health Support Team's (MHSTs) functions and remit.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and ethical guidelines, including safeguarding and mental health acts.
  • Demonstrate equality, diversity and inclusion awareness and its application particularly to working in London.
  • Understanding of CBT theory and evidence-based practice.
