Medical Workforce Lead

Are you an experienced Medical Workforce professional looking for an opportunity to influence workforce strategy, support senior clinical leaders, and lead a specialist medical staffing service?
As part of our newly established People & Culture Directorate, we are seeking an exceptional Medical Workforce Lead to provide expert leadership of our Medical Workforce function and help shape the future of the Trust's medical workforce services.
This is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring the delivery of a high-quality, compliant and customer-focused medical staffing service, supporting over 670 doctors across the Trust, including consultants, SAS doctors, resident doctors and locally employed doctors.
Main duties of the jobReporting to the Assistant Director of People Operations, you will lead the Medical Workforce Team and act as the Trust's subject matter expert on medical staffing matters. You will work closely with clinical leaders, operational teams and the Office of the Chief Medical Officer to ensure medical workforce services support patient care, workforce sustainability and organisational performance.
Your portfolio will include:
- Medical recruitment, onboarding and workforce compliance
- Consultant and SAS job planning
- Medical appraisal and revalidation processes
- Resident doctor rotations and exception reporting
- Medical contracts, terms and conditions, and workforce policy
- Workforce reporting, service improvement and operational performance
You will also play a key role in developing medical workforce systems, improving processes, and providing workforce intelligence to support operational and strategic decision-making.

We are looking for a credible and collaborative leader with:- Significant experience in Medical Workforce, HR, or operational management within the NHS.
- Strong knowledge of medical terms and conditions, medical workforce processes, and relevant employment legislation.
- Experience managing medical recruitment, onboarding, workforce compliance, or job planning processes.
- The ability to work confidently with senior clinicians, operational managers, and corporate teams.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret workforce data and drive service improvements.
- A commitment to compassionate leadership, continuous improvement, and delivering an excellent colleague experience.
