Job Description

We have a medical receptionistvacancy, hours to be agreed. You will need to be flexible and work morning andafternoon shifts and be able to finish as late as 6.30pm. You may also berequired to provide cover for sickness and holidays at short notice.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an intelligent,self-motivated person with a sunny disposition to join our busy

well-organised team. Previousexperience preferred but not essential. A knowledge of Emis Web

will be a great advantage.Applicant must be computer literate, possess good communication,

verbal and written skills,accuracy to detail and confidentiality are essential at all times. The

applicant would be based inreception dealing with patients and their queries, answering the

telephone, inputting data, andother general reception duties. The position can be very demanding

and fast moving at times so anability to learn new skills quickly and easily and to prioritise workload

are essential skills. Common senseand a good sense of humour are essential. You will be required

to attend training courses andpractice meetings.

Salaried GP, 3 Nurse practitioners, 1 Advanced Practitioner, 1 Practice nurse,2 HCAs and in house Practice pharmacist and Prescribing technician, along with our very experienced and supportive admin and reception teams.

Job responsibilities

Job Summary:

Receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way.

Provide general assistance to the practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone

The post holder is responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of a child or adult he/she is responsible for or comes into contact with.

Job Responsibilities:

Appointments

  • Process appointment requests for today and future appointments from patients by telephone and in person.
  • Deal with visits requests

Telephone

  • Have working knowledge of telephone/bleep system, during and after hours.
  • Processing personal and telephone requests for appointments, visits and telephone consultations and ensuring callers are directed to the appropriate healthcare professional
  • Taking messages and passing on information
  • Triage/ Sign posting as appropriate requests for same day appointments following practice protocol
  • Ensuring incoming calls are answered as a priority

Reception

  • Receiving patients and visitors to the practice
  • Consulting with members of practice team
  • Dealing with correspondence such as insurance reports and holiday cancellation forms and advising patients on the relevant charges for private services and accepting payment
  • Be able to cover all reception positions as necessary

Prescriptions

  • Handing completed repeat prescriptions to patient and checking names and address.
  • Cover the dedicated prescription line in order to process medication requests.

Administration

  • To have a thorough knowledge of all Practice procedures.
  • To work in accordance of written protocols
  • Pulling/filing notes on request from Clinicians and update as necessary
  • Filing post in medical records
  • Photocopy as requested.
  • Scanning documents on to the clinical system
  • SNOMED coding information as instructed and requested
  • Undertake and complete daily administrative tasks

Other Tasks

  • Ensure building security have thorough knowledge of doors/windows/alarm.
  • Make refreshments for doctors, visitors and other staff members and keeping the kitchen area clean and tidy.
  • Any other tasks allocated by managers

Qualifications
  • GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths
  • Qualified to NVQ level 2 in Health and Social Care
