Mechanical Maintenance Engineer (Day Shift)

Location: Witton, Birmingham

Salary: £45,000 - £48,000 per annum DOE

Hours: 7:00am - 3:30pm or flexible day hours to suit, Monday-Friday

Contract Type: Permanent Full-Time

Are you an experienced Mechanical Maintenance Engineer looking to develop your career within a high-performing, heavy industrial environment?

Our client, a market-leading manufacturer, is seeking a proactive engineer to join their maintenance team. This is a day shift position with occasional 4 on / 4 off shift cover, offering long term stability, excellent support, and involvement in continuous improvement and high-value engineering projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Carry out hands on mechanical maintenance across heavy industrial production lines and associated plant.
  • Lead TPM and PPM activities to maximise equipment performance and minimise downtime.
  • Act as the main maintenance contact for production operations and contractor management.
  • Respond promptly to breakdowns, conducting detailed fault finding and root cause analysis.
  • Drive reliability improvements and support ongoing optimisation projects.
  • Collaborate closely with production and engineering teams across the facility.
  • Manage spare parts inventory and ensure correct materials are on hand.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to apprentices and junior engineers.
  • Support machinery upgrades, installs, and plant expansion projects.
  • Maintain strict adherence to Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) standards and risk assessments.
Candidate Requirements:
  • Mechanical Engineering Qualification: NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, BTEC; HNC advantageous.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in a medium or heavy industrial maintenance environment.
Strong understanding of:
  • Hydraulics & pneumatics
  • Fluid power systems
  • Welding/fabrication
  • Machine shop practices
  • Confident interpreting mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics.
  • Experience with annealing, induction furnaces, casting or rolling equipment is highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication, problem solving, and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and provide cover on a 4 on / 4 off shift pattern for holidays and absence occasionally
