Mechanical Design Engineer

VIQU IT have partnered with a leading organisation specialising in HVAC and specialist ventilation systems for safety-critical facilities. This is a fantastic opportunity to take ownership of mechanical design projects, drive innovation in HVAC systems, and work closely with senior engineering leadership.
The Role
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you'll design and develop HVAC systems for various building types, ensuring they are energy-efficient, sustainable, and compliant with relevant codes and standards.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing HVAC systems including ductwork, piping, and equipment layout.
- Performing heating and cooling load calculations using industry-standard software.
- Selecting HVAC equipment and preparing technical specifications.
- Developing detailed design drawings and documentation using AutoCAD, Revit MEP, or similar tools.
- Ensuring compliance with building codes and energy regulations.
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams throughout the project life cycle.
- Conducting site visits for inspections, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
- Preparing cost estimates and supporting procurement processes.
- Integrating sustainable and energy-efficient design practices.
What You'll Need
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent).
- Proficiency in HVAC design software (eg, Hevacomp).
- Strong knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit MEP, and BIM workflows.
- Understanding of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and heat transfer.
- Familiarity with relevant codes and standards (CIBSE, BS EN).
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Experience in Energy, Defence, Transport, or similar sectors is desirable.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards it and CIBSE membership are a plus.
