Marketing Procurement Manager - Digital Marketing

Location: Amsterdam - UK Hybrid
Contract: 9 Months
Start: ASAP
Level: Mid-Senior
Travel: UK-based candidates considered with travel to Amsterdam approximately once per month

*Urgent 9 Month Contract*

This is a *Amsterdam* Remote/Hybrid based role with an excellent immediate start within a Global Technology Client that is working on *Managing procurement activity across a portfolio of digital and performance marketing categories.*

The Role

We are supporting our client in hiring an experienced Marketing Procurement Manager/Category Manager to join its global Marketing Procurement function on a maternity-cover assignment.

This is a specialist marketing procurement position with a strong emphasis on digital and performance marketing. We are therefore looking for candidates who genuinely understand the digital marketing ecosystem rather than generalist procurement professionals who have only had limited exposure to marketing categories.

The role will take ownership of an established portfolio, working directly with senior marketing stakeholders and suppliers across areas including PPC, paid media, SEO, organic marketing, app marketing, performance marketing, automation and emerging GenAI-related marketing initiatives.

This is a commercially and analytically focused position. A significant part of the role involves understanding marketing performance, spend, ROI and supplier value rather than focusing predominantly on traditional creative, PR or social-media agency procurement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage procurement activity across a portfolio of digital and performance marketing categories.
  • Partner directly with Marketing leadership and specialist marketing teams.
  • Manage sourcing projects from requirements gathering and market analysis through supplier selection, negotiation and contracting.
  • Manage commercial relationships with marketing, media, technology and agency suppliers.
  • Negotiate commercial terms, contracts, renewals and extensions.
  • Analyse marketing spend, commercial performance, supplier value and opportunities for optimisation.
  • Support procurement across areas such as PPC, SEO, paid and organic marketing, app marketing, digital media, automation and AI-related marketing.
  • Manage supplier performance through KPIs, service levels, QBRs and ongoing commercial reviews.
  • Identify opportunities for savings, cost avoidance, process improvement, innovation and supplier consolidation.
  • Provide commercial and procurement guidance to senior marketing stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with Legal, Finance, Risk, Privacy and Procurement Operations.
  • Maintain accurate documentation covering contracts, suppliers, savings, decisions and active sourcing projects.
  • Take ownership of existing projects quickly and ensure continuity throughout the maternity-cover period.
  • Maintain clear handover documentation for active projects, suppliers, commercial positions, risks and upcoming decisions.

Required Experience

We are looking for candidates with approximately 5-7+ years of relevant professional experience and strong knowledge across both marketing and procurement.

The strongest candidates are likely to have:

  • Significant experience in Marketing Procurement, Marketing Category Management or Strategic Sourcing.
  • Strong understanding of digital/performance marketing.
  • Procurement exposure to categories such as PPC, paid media, SEO, organic marketing, app marketing, digital advertising or marketing technology.
  • Experience working with marketing agencies, media partners, technology providers or other specialist marketing suppliers.
  • Strong strategic sourcing and category-management fundamentals.
  • Experience leading commercial negotiations and contract discussions.
  • Supplier and agency relationship management experience.
  • Strong analytical capability and an understanding of marketing ROI and performance metrics.
  • Experience managing supplier KPIs, QBRs and commercial performance.
  • Confidence working directly with senior marketing stakeholders.
  • Experience operating within a complex international or multinational organisation.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills.

Experience with procurement platforms such as Coupa, Ariba, SAP, Ivalua or equivalent would also be beneficial.

Candidate Background

The ideal candidate will already be working within marketing procurement and have substantial exposure to digital marketing categories.

However, we are also interested in candidates who have built their career across both disciplines- for example, someone who initially worked directly within digital marketing, media or an agency environment before moving into procurement or category management.

Candidates coming from large digital, performance or media agencies may therefore be particularly relevant, even where their current job title does not explicitly state "Marketing Procurement".

What is important is the ability to understand detailed conversations around digital marketing while also having the procurement and commercial capability to manage sourcing, suppliers, contracts and negotiations.

A purely generalist procurement background without meaningful marketing exposure is unlikely to be suitable.

Digital Marketing Scope

The portfolio is expected to have particular exposure to:

PPC/Paid Search | Performance Marketing | SEO | Organic Marketing | App Marketing | Paid Media | Digital Advertising | Marketing Automation | GenAI Marketing | Marketing Technology

There may also be occasional involvement across creative agencies, PR and social media, although these will represent a smaller proportion of the role.

Working Arrangement

The Marketing Procurement team operates globally across Amsterdam, New York and Bangkok, with Amsterdam acting as the main European hub.

Amsterdam-based candidates are preferred and would ideally spend approximately 1-2 days per week onsite.

Strong UK-based candidates will also be considered, provided they are comfortable travelling to Amsterdam approximately once per month, typically for several days. Travel would need to be self-funded.

The role is an individual contributor position reporting directly to the Director of Marketing Procurement.

Interview Process

The interview process is designed to move quickly and consists of two stages:

  1. Interview with the current Marketing Procurement Manager and a relevant Marketing stakeholder.
  2. Short final discussion with the Director of Marketing Procurement.

Key Search Profile

Marketing Procurement | Digital Marketing Procurement | Category Management | Performance Marketing | PPC | Paid Media | SEO | App Marketing | Organic Marketing | Marketing Agencies | Strategic Sourcing | Supplier Management | Commercial Negotiation | ROI | Marketing Technology | GenAI | Procurement
