Job Description

Managing Quantity Surveyor - Thames Valley

Job Type: Full-time, permanent

UKR Group is looking for an experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor to start ASAP in a job in Thames Valley, South East England.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and oversee the full commercial function on assigned projects, ensuring robust cost control, contract compliance, and optimal financial performance.
  • Manage and mentor a team of Quantity Surveyors (including Senior, Intermediate, and Assistant QSs), supporting their professional development and individual performance.
  • Take ownership of project budgets, including cost planning, forecasting, and reporting to senior leadership.
  • Develop and implement procurement strategies, lead subcontractor tendering processes, and ensure best value while mitigating commercial risk.
  • Administer main and sub-contracts, including preparation and review of payment applications, assessment of variations, management of claims, and agreement of final accounts.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, consultants, subcontractors, and internal project teams.
  • Provide accurate, timely cost reporting and clear commercial advice to project and operational leads.
  • Ensure that all commercial activities are undertaken in compliance with company policies, procedures, and contractual obligations.
  • Monitor project progress in collaboration with operational teams to ensure financial and programme targets are achieved.
  • Contribute to business development, bid support, and pre-construction planning as required.
Skills
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and develop commercial teams.
  • Excellent knowledge of construction contracts and associated administration.
  • Advanced financial and analytical skills with the ability to forecast and report accurately.
  • Strong negotiation and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build lasting professional relationships.
  • High levels of commercial acumen and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in relevant software (e.g., MS Excel, cost management systems, project management tools).
Requirements
  • Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
  • Chartered status with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) or working towards it is desirable.
  • Significant post-qualification experience in a senior commercial or project management role within the construction industry.
  • Proven track record of leading commercial teams on medium to large-scale projects.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of construction law, procurement practices, and industry standards.
