Manager, Computer Aided Engineering

Based In either Portage, Michigan or Cork, Ireland, the NPD Operations organization is seeking a highly effective people leader to lead and develop our capabilities, including Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE), Electrical CAD (eCAD), and Mechanical CAD (mCAD). The Engineering Manager, Computer Aided Engineering, is responsible for leading a multidisciplinary global team that supports the development of innovative medical devices through simulation, design enablement, Simulation & Design Engineering processes, and technical expertise. This leader will foster a high-performing team environment, support capability development, and ensure the organization delivers high-quality engineering services that enable successful New Product Development throughout the product lifecycle. The successful candidate will be an exceptional people leader and relationship builder who creates an environment where individuals and teams can grow, collaborate effectively, and deliver meaningful business outcomes. They will communicate complex technical outcomes to senior leaders, influence cross-functional decisions, establish trusted partnerships across business units and divisions, and help translate engineering capabilities into business value.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Organizational Leadership & Operational ExcellenceLead and develop the CAE, eCAD, and mCAD teams to support business priorities and New Product Development objectives. Support the development and execution of capability roadmaps that strengthen Simulation & Design Engineering services and expertise. Lead operational planning, workforce planning, and capability development activities. Drive continuous improvement initiatives that improve quality, speed, predictability, and customer experience. Establish, monitor, and communicate key performance indicators that demonstrate value and support informed decision-making. Support the implementation of new engineering tools, Simulation & Design Engineering methodologies, and scalable processes. Promote a culture of accountability, customer focus, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Talent & Team DevelopmentLead, coach, and develop a diverse team of engineers, designers, and technical specialists. Foster a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, knowledge sharing, and employee engagement. Develop team capabilities and create opportunities for growth and professional development. Conduct performance management, career development, and talent planning activities. Build an inclusive environment where employees feel valued, supported, and empowered to contribute. Simulation & Design Engineering ExcellenceEnsure consistent engineering processes, standards, tools, and best practices across CAE, eCAD, and mCAD. Guide the deployment and adoption of Simulation & Design Engineering methods, technologies, and workflows. Provide leadership and oversight for simulation, modeling, CAD design support, and digital verification activities. Support advancement of model-based engineering, Simulation & Design Engineering, simulation validation, and engineering automation capabilities. Ensure technical reviews and quality system requirements are executed effectively. Promote engineering methods that improve confidence in product development decisions. Support strong integration between simulation, design, and testing activities to improve product development outcomes.
Stakeholder PartnershipServe as a trusted partner to R&D leaders, project teams, and functional stakeholders. Collaborate with Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Test Engineering, Test Labs, Quality, Regulatory Affairs, Advanced Operations, Manufacturing, and other cross-functional partners. Build strong relationships across Business Units, Divisions, and global engineering organizations to understand priorities and align support with business needs. Communicate complex technical outcomes, trade-offs, risks, and recommendations in a manner that supports effective decision-making by senior leaders. Influence project prioritization and resource allocation decisions through collaboration, data, and business insight. Communicate organizational performance, risks, and opportunities to leadership. Champion Simulation & Design Engineering capabilities and identify opportunities to increase engagement, value creation, and organizational impact. Establish credibility and trusted partnerships through responsiveness, communication, and consistent execution.
Resource & Portfolio ManagementBalance capacity and demand across CAE, eCAD, and mCAD resources. Support short-, mid-, and long-term resource forecasting and planning activities. Manage departmental budgets, resource planning, and investment priorities. Drive prioritization discussions to ensure resources are aligned to the highest-value work. Provide leadership with resource forecasts, staffing recommendations, and risk assessments. Ensure effective utilization of people, technology, and external resources to meet business objectives.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSWhat you will need (must have):
- Education Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical discipline required.
- Master's degree preferred.
- Experience 8+ years of engineering experience in medical device development or new product development.
- 2+ years of experience leading teams, technical programs, or engineering organizations.
- Experience supporting multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Experience supporting new product development through simulation, engineering design, CAD, or Simulation & Design Engineering capabilities.
- Experience working within regulated product development environments.
- Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and balance business needs across multiple stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships across functions and communicate technical outcomes to senior leadership.
Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships with business leaders, customers, and cross-functional stakeholders. Proven ability to communicate technical information and recommendations to leadership audiences. Ability to influence decisions and drive alignment without direct authority. Ability to translate business needs into team priorities and execution plans. Experience leading through ambiguity and balancing competing priorities. Strong business acumen with the ability to connect engineering activities to business outcomes. Proven ability to create alignment across teams, functions, and organizational boundaries. Demonstrated coaching, mentoring, and people development skills.
PREFERRED QualificationsWhat you will need (strongly desired):
- Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in Engineering or a related field.
- Experience with Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE), Mechanical CAD (mCAD), Electrical CAD (eCAD), Simulation & Design Engineering, Model-Based Engineering, or Engineering Automation technologies.
- Experience working with global teams and cross-site collaboration.
- Experience supporting engineering capability development and technology adoption.
- Knowledge of medical device development processes and regulatory requirements.
- Experience integrating simulation, design, and testing workflows.
- Experience supporting organizational change, process improvement, or operational excellence initiatives.
Ireland: €76,000 - €126,000 EUR Annual

These roles could have travel expectations, and you must work within the country of the job requisition location. Field-based - You can expect to regularly work a majority to 100% of time at customer facilities and has a set territory or expectation to travel within a set boundary. Almost all sales roles would likely be qualified as field-based. Onsite - Role is 100% located at a Stryker facility. Some ad hoc flexibility may be available depending on role, level, and job requirements. Manufacturing roles and any role that requires physical presence at the office would qualify under this category. Hybrid - You can expect to regularly work in both an alternate workplace and a Stryker facility. Roles that are partially remote or co-located would qualify as hybrid, and the expectation to be onsite would be defined and agreed upon by your manager/supervisor.
