Location: Heol Don Care Home, Heol Don, Whitchurch, Cardiff, CF14 2AU
Contract: Permanent - Full Time
Hours: 40 hours per week with on call duty
Salary: Up to £17.05 per hour dependent on experience

Overview

As a Maintenance Operative, you will ensure the care home's facilities remain fully functional, maintaining buildings, equipment, and compliance with safety, health and housing regulations while supporting day to day service delivery.

Responsibilities
  • Carry out health and safety and compliance checks using digital systems and Bupa compliance tools on the timescales set by Bupa Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Action, close and report tasks assigned by the Maintenance Manager or the Home Manager.
  • Ensure safety, cleanliness and maintenance within the care home and grounds meet Environmental Health, Fire Authority and Legionella requirements.
  • Complete all maintenance and repair tasks to a high standard, on time and cost effective, maintaining internal decoration to meet Bupa's brand values.
  • Document residents' preferences for personal space and act upon them.
  • Report defects, obtain quotes and manage repairs through Bupa approved contractors.
  • Escalate irreparable defects to the Home Manager or Property/Maintenance Manager.
  • Participate in refurbishment and capex programmes, minimising disruption to residents, visitors and staff.
  • Maintain tools, equipment and emergency systems safely and secure them at all times.
  • Assist with induction of new staff regarding emergency exits, fire points and evacuation procedures.
  • Provide maintenance support to other care homes within a 1 hour radius as required.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Good understanding of building services: heating, hot and cold-water distribution, ventilation, electrical distribution, and plumbing.
  • Sound knowledge of building fabric and its maintenance.
  • Practical experience with planned maintenance systems and record keeping.
  • Knowledge of statutory requirements and compliance experience.
  • Full driving licence.
  • Building, electrical or plumbing qualification (e.g. City & Guilds, BTEC, ONC, HNC) or at least 3 years of hands-on experience in property maintenance and general repairs.
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Good customer service skills.
  • Flexible to respond to changing demands within the care home.
  • Practical ability and experience in painting and decorating.
