Job Description

Job Title: Maintenance Officer

Team / Department: Environmental and Neighbourhood Services

Location: Elizabeth House, Stratford-upon-Avon

and Remote Working

Employment Status: Permanent

Hours per week: 37

Working Arrangements: The Council's standard hours are: -

8.45am to 5.15pm, Monday to Wednesday

and 8.45am to 5.00pm Thursday and Friday.

Emergency callouts, on a 24-hour basis, as necessary.

Salary: Grade I - £32,597 - £35,412

What to Expect in the Role

In this hands on role, you'll play a key part in keeping the Council's buildings running smoothly and looking their best. From tackling day to day repairs to taking on minor building or civil engineering projects, your work will directly support the community spaces people rely on.

You'll collaborate across different Council departments, stepping in where needed and contributing to a wide variety of tasks.

Above all, you'll take pride in delivering high quality, efficient work that helps maintain safe, welcoming, and well kept public facilities.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities (Please see Job Description and Person Specification for more details)
  • Champion safe working practices by following all Health & Safety legislation and Council policies, ensuring every task is carried out responsibly and professionally.
  • Work collaboratively across Council teams, coordinating activities to minimise disruption and deliver a smooth, effective service to colleagues and the public.
  • Deliver high quality, efficient repairs and maintenance, ensuring all materials and workmanship meet the standards needed for a reliable, long lasting outcome.
  • Take ownership of tasks from start to finish-sourcing materials, completing paperwork, responding swiftly to urgent requests, and keeping accurate records of work, time and resources.
  • Support wider Council operations by assisting team members when needed, carrying out regular inspections across Council assets, staying up to date on health and safety training, and communicating effectively in this public facing role.
What You'll Need (Please see Job Description and Person Specification for more details)
  • Proven trade expertise, with a recognised background in plumbing, carpentry, or a similar building trade, supported by a City & Guilds qualification.
  • Strong communication skills, with fluent spoken English essential for effective performance in this public facing role.
  • Solid hands on experience, having performed comparable maintenance or trade work for at least five years.
  • Work confidently and independently, using initiative, staying self motivated, and being comfortable with basic IT tasks in MS Word and Excel.
  • Stay flexible and reliable, holding a full clean driving licence and being able to respond to emergency callouts on a 24 hour basis when required
