The PositionThe Estates Maintenance Assistant plays an important role in maintaining safe, functional, and well presented NHS Orkney facilities, delivering an efficient maintenance service across The Balfour and other sites. The role involves supporting planned and reactive maintenance, grounds upkeep, and painting and decorating tasks, ensuring both internal and external areas are maintained to a high standard and provide a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
The CandidateThe role requires a basic standard of education equivalent to National 4 level, practical experience in building maintenance or a related trade, and a sound understanding of health and safety.
Candidates should be confident using hand and basic power tools, able to carry out general maintenance tasks, and work reliably to instructions and deadlines.
Good communication skills, flexibility, and a professional approach are essential, along with a willingness to undertake relevant NHS and manufacturer training to develop and maintain technical competence.
A full current UK driving licence. It is essential that the post holder holds a full UK driving licence. Where, by virtue of a disability, an applicant has the qualifications and experience to perform the role but is unable to drive, consideration will be given to reasonable adjustments, including alternative transport arrangements.
Location, Working Pattern and Contract DurationThis post will be based at The Balfour.
The successful candidate will work: Full Time 36 hours per week ( Monday to Thursday and on Friday).
This post is Permanent.
It is a condition of this employment that you must live and remain a resident within the UK for the post that will be employed with NHS Orkney.
Benefits and SalaryThe salary for this post is Band 2 and if residing on Orkney, you'll also receive a Distant Islands Allowance of £1,719 pro rata per annum, adding extra value to your rewarding career with us.
